They bought quality now and again but didnt always come off: jari Litmanen who looked two classes above and preferred Emile Heskey!, Christian Ziege, Fernando Morientes, Djibril Cisse, Harry Kewell, Ryan Babel, Robbie Keane, Alberto Aquilani all very decent players on the European stage who simply for whatever reason didnt shine
Houllier bought some duds but oh my Benitez !

I think Liverpool need to get rid of the dead wood, bring through the youth, buy a few players and they could challenge for the title again next season. Manchester United need to do the same because they are in the Champions League next season so they will really need to strengthen.

Actually I feel for Liverpool, Rodgers was who gave the guy a chance and yes definitely one of the people to take the club forward
Money wasnt part of it, no, but if he`s on 130,000+ elsewhere he`ll sign for them even if its a club below Liverpool`s level? Young player whose head is being turned by an agent
Chelsea dont need him they are a club with more Midfielders than Tottenham these days
I`d have him at Man Utd mind
Similarly I cant see Arsenal breaking there wage structure and again not short of quality wide players
Which leaves nationally Man City, the obvious one and on current form he`s better than Nasri or Navas
Unless the likes of Madrid or Barca are circling and at the moment I dont reckon so, PSG?
As I see it unless Man City do come in for him, there may be a drastic U-Turn

Well Sterling has made a point to say its not about money but winning trophies, so he will either be exposed as a liar if he goes to a club with no better prospects of winning than Liverpool, or he will go to one of the Top 4 teams in England and to a degree live up to his word. I think you are right about the clubs, Man City or MU are certainly probably the most likely options with City holding the edge due to the MU-Liverpool rivalry. If I was Liverpool I would push to sell him abroad where he will do less direct damage to them going forward. From Sterlings point of view I would be wary of a move abroad, there are not many English players abroad success stories out there, and I have seen nothing in him to suggest he is intelligent enough to buck that trend!!

The guy is only 20 years old. It's ludicrous for him to say he wants to move now to win trophies when he's got probably another 15 years ahead of him at the top level if he develops properly. He's greedy either for money or for instant success without merit. While footballers want to win things I don't think it says much for anyone whose ambition is just to join a club that's already winning them without establishing himself as worthy of winning medals first. If he stays at Liverpool he'll play most games, has the manager's faith and can prove he's not just a flash in the pan, and those moves will still be there for him later if he wants to move further down the line. If he moves to United/Chelsea/Man City now he'll be rotated in and out of the side, and if he doesn't hit the ground running will find it hard to stake a claim at all. Plenty of promising players have crashed and burned when they found they weren't among the top dogs at their new club.

Love the "instant success without merit" line you use there!! Going forward we should call this "Doing a Sterling" if he does move on!!!

Maybe QPR arent so stupid, they have a 25% sell on clause on Raheem Sterling
Might help with wages a bit in the championship

25% could bring in some good, desperately needed cash. If they are going for a youth policy this money will go far and they might find a Sterling of the future.
Amusing that Raheem Stirling looks to be going to who ever offers him the most money - in old money that would be 'Sterling' £££
