Town head down the M1 to rainy Rotherham on Saturday for the first of two 6 pointers in the next 3 games. Town will be looking to do what almost everyone else has done in 2024 and come back with 3 points. This is the last Yorksha League fixture for both clubs, with nowt but pride to play for. In that other League we're in Town need to climb out from under the trap door where we've found ourselves again in spite of some recently improved performances.

With Rotherham on 19 points, if only two places below us, it might be pushing it to say this is a 6 pointer I suppose, but it's definitely a 'must winner' of a match for us.

Latest news

Kevin the Gerbil was quoted in The Unexamined this week as saying nothing that really isn't the bleeding obvious. Quite what resources he's going to supply when it's better players (and/or fit one's) we need, when he can't do anything until the Summer window opens is beyond me.

Brody Spencer has been called up by Nor'n Iron for the International Break Thumb up

Elsewhere, Reading have gained yet another 3 point deduction and in the National League South former Football League club Torquay, who we played many a time have been given a 10 point penalty after saying they are going into administration. That will leave them 2 points above the trap door to who knows where. Southern League South?

Out Injured/Suspended/Isolating

The long term injured and banned (he knows who he is) are still where they've been practically all year. Brighton Writer indicated Healey, Mr. Bojangles and Edwards are back in training. Likey won't make the squad.

Former Town fullback Lee Peltier joined the ranks of the Rotherham injured when he damaged ankle ligaments in the recent game against Wendies. He's gonna be out for a while.

Balker came on against WBA and came through OK, so is in contention for Saturday.

Last time out

After 45 minutes of WBA trying their best to give us the game and a healthy half-time lead, they came out in the 2nd half and showed us in 20 minutes how to take the chances that we continuously failed to take in the first and the second half. The 1-4 defeat left us where we started, after some of Saturday's results had gone against us (again), on the wrong side of the trap door with our already piss-poor goal difference taking another big hit.

Have your socks dried out yet from all that rain?

The Millers got a similar thumping 5-0 at Norwich. Afterwards their head coach Leam Richardson didn't pull too many punches regarding their display.

“You feel physically sick,” he said. “You feel physically sick for the travelling fans who've been to Coventry and Norwich and been on the back of the performances we've offered.” “I'll take full blame, full responsibility, regardless of what's gone before. I'm the leader, so to speak. I pick the team, I put the players out there.

“In the last two games ... if you don't do the basics right at this level, you get punished, you get put on your arse.” “We can't carry people,” he said. “We've got to make sure we're all as one. We have to be united going forward. We can't have different agendas.”

Almost everyone that we didn't want to get points did on Saturday, though with 2 games featuring clubs in our little corner of the League Table playing each other, that was bound to happen. Wendies defeat to L666s on Friday Night Football kept them below us on goal difference, Millwall took all three points off Brum, Blackburn and Plymouth drew at Ewood Park, Stoke took all 3 points off Both Ends, QPR lost at home to Boro ending a string of decent results.

Music

The Reytons hail from this part of the world and landed a Number 1 album in January last year.

You might want to have your headset plugged in if you play this at work or if you don't want to upset yer mam. Whistle
Otherwise they sound alreyt to me. Smartass

Jive Bunny and The Mastermixers were also responsible for stuff like this

I don't really think it's aged too well, but what do I know?

Back in history a bit, a familiar face on the Folk Club circuit and occassionallly on TV a certain Tony "It takes an 'ammer, a chisel and a fortneet to tune this .." Capstick was one of Rotherham's famous sons. (1944-2003). He has an infamous, if tenuous, link to The Millers.

I never knew what ringworm was until I came to work in Wolvo. I'd get it on my elbows about every 3-5 years, (it might have been carpet burn some years, but let's not go there). Fortunately athletes foot cream clears it up, so I didn't have to paint my elbows purple.

Plenty of other famous folk from these parts too. Too? To me - to you. Tongue

The Sack Race

The one we knew was always going to happen, it was just a matter of when, not if. Watford finally got round to sacking long-time (by their standards) manager Valerien Ismael, after Saturdays 1-2 home defeat to Coventry. Watford have won only 2 games this year, at QPR and Rotherham, and have gone from top 6 challengers to being 7 points above us (we're currently under the trap door, I may have mentioned that). How many more managers they will appoint in the next two months is anyone's guess, but Ismael surely qualifies for a Long-Service-Award at Watford. Smartass

Colin also handed his notice in at Aberdeen, having not won a league match but having won two cup matches to get them into the semi-final of the Jock's version of the FA Cup. As reported by Snoots, allegedly, Fotheringham is on the short list to take over. How embarrassing would that be for Colin? Well he obviously talks a good interview, everything else is just bollox that follows. If that doesn't get Sir Alex Ferguson's Red Nose twitching and spinning I don't know what will. Good luck with that Aberdeen. Whistle

Tables & Recent Form

The Yorksha League
(in case you missed it last time)

The madness that is The Championship Table continues to baffle all who try to predict the unpredictable.

Only 9 points separate a desperately out of form Blunderland in 12th place and Wendies in 23rd. Blackburn and Plymouth who a few weeks ago were well clear of Town in mid-table are now both only 3 points above us. Having the two top goalscorers in the division in their sides somewhat helps their goal difference. However, only Rotherham have conceded more than them (you can include Town in that list too).

So in predicting the unpredicatable, I wouldn't be surprised if more than 50 points are needed to stay up, and two clubs might get relegated on goal difference this season, let alone one. The Millers have been bottom of the table for the best part of half the season now and if we win and that doesn't sink them, then any more points dropped by them over Easter surely will.

It shouldn't be too difficult to find both clubs in the form tables.

[Image: 7ibWmWv.jpeg] [Image: 8JLlgE2.jpeg]

Leam Richardson was appointed mid-December after Matt Taylor was given the push a month before. A brief period of New Manager bounce kicked in as they unexpectedly picked up 6 points in the Christmas/New Year/January fixtures, from a home win and and away draw v Boro and two draws against Sunderland and Blackburn. They lost 0:1 to Stoke in their other fixture. Since that point at Boro, they've lost every game, all 9 of them, with the last two both being 5-0 thumpings on the road.

[Image: vCxeopX.jpeg] [Image: 8Z1RB6x.jpeg]

Innies and Outies

Not surprisingly, The Millers kept the purse strings tight in the January Sales. I might not be the only one in thinking we should get a refund on Wiles though. He was seemingly far more consistent for them. Well, he's consistent for us to be honest, just the wrong consistency. More water? More flour? More yeast? Maybe we need to ask Deliah. Come on son, let's be 'avin' ya! Where are ya?

Who's banging 'em in

A team that's only scored 30 goals all season isn't going to have a 20 goal/season goal machine in the ranks.

They can't all lose

This is also FA Cup 6th Round weekend, and with Leicester and Coventry involved, their games have been pushed back to April 23rd. Not that those fixtures will affect the battle down amongst the dead men.

In the bottom 3rd, apart from our match, Wendies go to Ipswich, out of form Brum play out of form and managerless Watford, hit and miss QPR go to out of form Blunderland, win-one-lose-one Stoke are home to a suddeny more in form Norwich. Blackburn go to Boro and Plymouth are home to Both Ends. Try predicting those two! Oh! Apparently our Division 1 predictors are going to give it a go. Well, there's only a 2 in 3 chance of the wrong results and who knows what odds of the wrong/right score. I suspect not many jokers will be played on those two matches.

We've played 'em before

Town are way ahead in the Head2Head but The Millers often give us a game when we meet at their's. This won't be a push over and Town will need some better shooting boots on than they had last weekend to win this one.

Next up?

It's international break time again next weekend, so our next fixture is at home to Coventry on Good Friday.

Kwik Millers Kwiz.

1. Who or what was Mick the Miller?
2. Who famously lived and worked at Colley's Mill and where was it?
3. There are pubs on the Burnley Road at Mytholmroyd and Halifax Road, Hove Edge (Brighouse) with (give or take a "The") the same name.
Name those pubs? (Apologies to non-locals but an inspired guess will maybe get you the answer).
4. Where is the cobbled street, made famous in the Hovis advert? Clue - it's not in Rotherham.
5. What was previously on the site of Noo Yark Stadium?
6. Which river flows by the stadium and which other stadium does it occassionally flood?
7. Which trophy have The Millers won twice?
8. Which division have The Millers spent most time in?
9. Who is Rotherham's all time leading scorer?.
10. What was The Millers previous ground called, how far away is it from the current one and why is it still there?
(I'm joking about that last bit). Big Grin

Nice one, theo. Thumb up

To have double the points of our opponents, but still be in the relegation zone, says a lot about this crazy Championship season. Fifty points definitely ain't gonna be enough this time around. Looking like it could be another last day, squaeky bum time. Blush

Gonna say it was called millmoor, still there because Rotherham council cant afford to knock it down and are hoping that someone buys it for houses. Even in it's state of disrepair, it still looks better than the vast majority of Rotherham.

One of the answers must be the chuckle brothers, which one, I know not. If it isn't an answer, it should be.

The ground to get flooded by the river, I'd possibly say that old athletics one that Rotherham ended up playing at. I remember a game under lee Clark where we played there and the pitch was utterly atrocious. Otherwise I'd possibly guess at Doncaster's keepemout. Think brammall lane is on a hill and Hillsborough is in a fairly residential area, but the river might pass across the road I guess.

The cobbled street? Probably not even Yorkshire.

1. Mick the Miller was either one of Ken Dodd's Diddymen. Or a greyhound.

3. There's one in Mirfield as well, just around the corner from where my nan and Patrick Stewart were neighbours. Dusty Miller.

9. Ronnie Moore?

Sorry, thought I would jump in on these two.

4. Where is the cobbled street, made famous in the Hovis advert? Clue - it's not in Rotherham.
Its in Shaftesbury, Dorset. Went there a few years ago.

6. Which river flows by the stadium and which other stadium does it occasionally flood?
That would be the River Don and has made Hillsborough a temporary swimming pool a few times!!
