Morecambe have signed former Gillingham defender David Tutonda on a one-year deal.

The 27-year-old was a free agent after being released by the Gills at the end of 2022-23 after making 54 league appearances in two seasons.

He could make his Shrimps debut against Notts County on Tuesday.

"This move has come at a really good time where I am ready to keep pushing and testing myself," he told the club website.

Morecambe have been given a three-point deduction, suspended until 30 June 2024, for not paying players on time.

The club admitted to a breach of English Football League regulations, with wages owed for March being paid three days late.

Controlling shareholder Jason Whittingham must also deposit an amount equal to 125% of their monthly wage bill to cover any future delays.

March's payment delay came before Morecambe were relegated to League Two.

Whittingham and Colin Goldring, who own the club, put them up for sale in September 2022 and stepped down from the board.

Boxer and Morecambe fan Tyson Fury had previously been linked with buying the Shrimps, prior to Sarbjot Johal beginning steps to take over the club.

The EFL invited Johal to discuss his proposed takeover in February, after his company Sarb Capital earlier purchased equity in the club; however, a full takeover is yet to take place.

Morecambe have won two of their opening four league games this season after returning to the fourth tier.

Morecambe have signed Bristol Rovers centre-back James Connolly on a season-long loan deal.

The 21-year-old made 30 appearances in League One for Joey Barton's side last season.

The Wales Under-21 international could make his debut for the Shrimps at home to Salford on Saturday.

"Morecambe are a good club that have a proven track record of helping to develop young players like myself," he told the club website.

Morecambe have signed Blackburn striker Ethan Walker on a season-long loan.

The 21-year-old came through the ranks at Preston before making his debut against Aston Villa aged 16 years and 156 days - a club record.

Preston loaned Walker to Altrincham, Stalybridge Celtic, Carlisle and AFC Fylde before he signed for Blackburn last summer.

Manager Derek Adams told the club website: "He is a young, hungry forward who wants to continue his development.

"We see this as a good opportunity for him to do that at the same time as helping us in League Two this season."

"You can see from his career to date that he hasn't been afraid to go out and test himself in men's football and try to push himself and those are fantastic attributes for us to bring to Morecambe."

Walker has scored seven goals for Rovers Under-21 in Premier League 2 across the past two seasons.

League Two Morecambe have signed former Ipswich winger Gwion Edwards on a deal until the end of the season.

The 30-year-old had been without a club since he was released by Wigan in the summer.

Edwards is a product of the Swansea youth system and also had spells at Crawley and Peterborough.

He was part of the Wigan side which won promotion to the Championship in 2021-22 but was loaned out to Ross County the following season.

Wales youth international Edwards told the Morecambe website: "I like to play attacking football, [taking] crosses and shots, so set some goals up and get some goals myself.

"If I'm assisting and scoring goals, I'm doing my job."

Morecambe have signed Norwich City goalkeeper Archie Mair on loan for the rest of the season.

The 22-year-old spent the first half of the campaign with National League side Gateshead, making 27 appearances.

Mair was the hero of Notts County's play-off final shootout win over Chesterfield last season.

He is not eligible for Morecambe's FA Cup third-round tie at Swansea on Saturday, having already played in the competition for Gateshead.

The Scotland Under-21 international made a name for himself at Wembley in May when he was sent on as a substitute at the end of extra time and saved two Chesterfield penalties to take Notts back into the Football League.

He has not made a first-team appearance for the Canaries but has also had loan spells at King's Lynn and Dartford.

He told the Morecambe club website: "I had a call saying I was wanted here at Morecambe - ever since then, it's all happened quickly.

"I'm hoping to be quite consistent, I'm quite comfortable with the ball at my feet. Maybe they [the fans] will look at me and think I've a laid-back approach, but that's just how I play."

Burnley have recalled striker Michael Mellon from his season-long loan at Morecambe.

The 20-year-old, who is the son of Oldham manager Micky Mellon, scored 13 goals in 22 League Two appearances for the Shrimps.

The Scotland Under-21 international is the second loanee to leave Morecambe on Monday after Cardiff recalled midfielder Eli King.

Ged Brannan's side are 17th in League Two, six points off the play-offs.

Morecambe have signed Barrow striker Ged Garner on loan until the end of the season.

The 25-year-old, who became the Bluebirds' record signing when he joined from Fleetwood last January, has scored twice in 23 games in 2023-24.

He could make his debut for the Shrimps in Saturday's League Two game at MK Dons.

"I want to come here to play and score as many goals as possible," Garner told the club website.

Morecambe have signed former Rangers winger Brandon Barker and ex-QPR defender Kayden Harrack on deals until the end of the season.

Barker, 27, started his career with Manchester City and has been a free agent since leaving Cypriot side Omonia Nicosia in August.

Grenada international Harrack, 20, left the R's on Wednesday after his short-term deal expired.

The pair could feature in Saturday's League Two trip to MK Dons.

Oscar Threlkeld has signed for Morecambe until the end of the season.

The 29-year-old defender joined the Shrimps in November on a short-term deal after his contract with Bradford expired in the summer.

He has made one 17-minute league appearance and one FA Cup start for the Lancashire club since joining.

The Bolton youth product has also played for Plymouth, Waasland-Beveren and Salford, and he was loaned to Oldham last season.

Threlkeld has previously opened up about the mental health issues that had affected his career while he was with Waasland-Beveren in Belgium.

He told the Morecambe website: "I'm an experienced and versatile player so I'm looking forward to getting stuck in where I'm needed and do what I can to help the squad succeed.

"The team is performing well and, with a couple of games in hand, we can hopefully continue to move up the table and push for promotion."

Morecambe are currently 13th in the table.
