Colchester United midfielder Cole Skuse has left the League Two club to take over as manager of non-league side Bury Town.

Skuse, 37, has been with the U's for the past two seasons after spending eight years with Ipswich Town.

He made 27 league appearances this season, and scored one goal, with his final game coming in the 2-0 home defeat by Mansfield Town on Monday.

Bury play in the eighth tier of the English football pyramid.

Skuse, who has retired from professional football following the end of his contract at Colchester, said he feels "ready" to start his first management job.

Bury Town finished 11th in the 20-team Isthmian League North Division this season.

League Two side Colchester United have signed Southampton defender Nico Lawrence on a season-long loan.

The 19-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan with Torquay, who went on to be relegated from the National League.

He made 20 league appearances for the Gulls and collected their young player of the season award.

Before joining Torquay, he signed a new Saints contract to remain with the club until the summer of 2025.

Colchester start the new season with a home game against Swindon Town on 5 August.

Colchester United have signed Crystal Palace goalkeeper Owen Goodman on a season-long loan deal.

The 19-year-old is an England Under-20 international.

He has been with the Premier League side since under-13s level and was named on the bench for the Eagles four times last season.

Goodman could make his senior debut in the U's League Two season-opener at home to Swindon Town on Saturday, 5 August.

Colchester United have signed Arsenal's teenage Portuguese midfielder Mauro Bandeira on a season-long loan deal.

The 19-year-old played three times for Arsenal Under-21 in the EFL Trophy last season after signing his first professional contract a year ago.

Bandeira is U's boss Ben Garner's fourth signing of the summer ahead of the new League Two season.

He is the second loan player from a Premier League club to arrive following Crystal Palace goalkeeper Owen Goodman.

Southampton defender Nico Lawrence is another season-long loanee, while Ellis Iandolo has joined permanently from Swindon Town.

Colchester United have signed former Arsenal goalkeeper Tom Smith on a two-year contract.

The 21-year-old kept three clean sheets in six appearances for the U's during a loan spell at the end of last season.

He left the Emirates Stadium over the summer but follows Gunners team-mate Mauro Bandeira to Colchester following the midfielder's recent loan move.

Smith is the fifth summer signing by Colchester, who start the new season against Swindon on 5 August.

Colchester United striker Samson Tovide has signed a new two-year contract.

The 19-year-old made his English Football League debut in October 2021 and made 31 appearances last season, scoring twice.

Tovide's deal with the League Two club also includes an option for a further 12 months.

Having scored four goals in four warm-up games, he will wear the number nine shirt this season - which the U's begin at home to Swindon Town on Saturday.

Colchester United have signed Charlton Athletic defender Zach Mitchell on loan for the rest of the season.

Although only 18, he made his first league start for his parent club against Cheltenham last December.

And he has so far made 11 senior appearances for the Addicks, the most recent in their Carabao Cup defeat by Newport County last month.

The U's have also signed ex-Nottingham Forest forward Yassine En-Neyah, but sent him on loan to Maldon & Tiptree.

He spent part of last season with non-league Truro City, making 14 appearances.

Colchester United have re-signed Owura Edwards from Bristol City for an undisclosed fee and brought in Jay Mingi and Charlton's Zak Mitchell.

Edwards, 22, scored three goals in 13 appearances for the U's during a loan spell in the 2021-22 campaign.

Midfielder Mingi, 22, has signed a two-year contract after leaving Portsmouth earlier this summer.

Addicks defender Zach Mitchell, 18, has joined the League Two club on loan for the rest of the season.

The teenager has made a total of 11 senior appearances for the south-east London club since making his debut in November last year.

Mingi featured 26 times for Pompey last season, but the last of those was on New Year's Day.

Edwards, who played four senior games for Bristol City and spent last season on loan at Ross County, has agreed a two-year deal with Colchester.

The U's have also signed ex-Nottingham Forest forward Yassine En-Neyah, but sent him on loan to Maldon & Tiptree.

League Two club Colchester United have signed Northern Ireland international Cameron McGeehan on a contract until the end of the season.

The 28-year-old midfielder was a free agent after leaving Belgian club KV Oostende earlier this year.

The former Barnsley man scored seven goals in 56 appearances over the course of a three-year stint in Belgium.

McGeehan made his senior international debut in a 2024 European Championship qualifier against San Marino in March.

He has previously had permanent spells at Norwich City and Luton Town and spent time on loan at Cambridge United, Scunthorpe United and Portsmouth.

Colchester United winger Jayden Fevrier has signed a new two-year contract with the League Two club, until the end of the 2024-25 season.

The 20-year-old came through the academy at West Ham before joining the U's in December.

Fevrier said he was "proud and happy" to sign a new deal, describing it as a "big step in my career".

He has played 18 times for Colchester, including four starts and one from the bench in five league games this term.

The U's are at home to Tranmere on Saturday having won only once so far this season, with four defeats, and are 22nd in the table.
