Burton Albion defender Michael Mancienne has retired from playing.

The 35-year-old's contract at the League One club expires this summer.

Cameron Borthwick-Jackson, Ben Radcliffe, Thierry Latty-Fairweather, William Kokolo, Louis Moult, Chris McCann, Sam Winnall, Ben Garratt, Jonny Smith and Callum Hawkins are leaving.

Mustapha Carayol, Tom Hewlett, Craig MacGillivray, Jakub Niemczyk, Tom Hamer, Deji Oshilaja, Conor Shaughnessy and Terry Taylor are in contract talks.

Mancienne joined Burton as a free agent in February 2021 and made 43 appearances for the Brewers.

His career started at Chelsea and has included spells at QPR, Nottingham Forest and Wolves.

He also played in Germany for Hamburg and in the USA for New England Revolution.

Mancienne played for England Under-21s and in 2008 received a surprise call-up to the senior squad, although he never appeared in a match for the senior team and later played at international level for Seychelles.

Burton Albion have agreed a deal to sign striker Cole Stockton on a free transfer when his contract with Morecambe expires.

He will move to the Pirelli Stadium on 1 July on a two-year deal after four seasons with the Shrimpers.

The 29-year-old scored 12 goals in 44 appearances last season.

"I worked with him in 2015 at Southport and he's proved himself to be a top Football League forward since then," said Burton boss Dino Maamria.

"He makes things happen in the final third. If you give the ball to him, he will create and score goals without a shadow of a doubt. He will fit in well with the team we are looking to build."

Stockton began his career at Tranmere Rovers and had spells with Scottish club Hearts and Carlisle United before returning to Prenton Park in the summer of 2018.

He moved to Morecambe 12 months later and scored 52 goals in 152 league games, but the club were relegated last season after finishing 22nd in League One, seven places below the Brewers.

"I know about Burton, what kind of club they are and what the fans expect," he said.

"I want to get going now; get through pre-season fit and strong and be prepared for the first game of the season."

Burton Albion have signed Rekeem Harper on a two-year deal after the midfielder had his contract at Ipswich Town terminated by mutual consent.

The 23-year-old made only 19 appearances in all competitions for Ipswich after joining them for £500,000 from West Brom in the summer of 2021.

He spent must of last season on loan at Exeter, having had a stint with Crewe the season before.

Harper said Burton is the "right club" at the "right time" for him.

Talking to the club website, the former England Under-19 international added: "The manager has seen the strengths in my game and seen the things to work on. He has ambitions and as a player I share those visions."

Harper was just 17 when he made his Premier League debut at West Bromwich Albion and went on to play 41 times for the Baggies in all competitions.

His exploits with the Baggies saw him linked with Liverpool, Tottenham and Italian giants Juventus in 2019.

'Given him a home'
No such move materialised, but he had a stint at Birmingham City before dropping to League One with Ipswich.

Burton boss Dino Maamria - who is overseeing his first pre-season at the club, having replaced Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink in September 2022 - says he is delighted to have a player with experience and the capacity to improve.

"He's a top midfielder who had a lot of success at a young age but hasn't really been settled after being sent out on loan which is not easy sometimes," said Maamria.

"What he liked about us is that we have given him a home for the next two years and hopefully beyond that."

Meanwhile, former Preston, Oldham and Barnet assistant manager John Dreyer, 60, has been appointed as Maamria's number two.

South Africa-born Chauke played his sole senior game for Southampton in a 2-0 FA Cup win over Shrewsbury Town in January 2021.

Mammaria said of him: "He's someone we have chased for a while as he's a real talent. He's a dynamic midfielder who is technically very good. "He decided to come to us because he knows we develop young players and make them better. He will give us energy and quality on the ball as well."

Meanwhile, former Preston, Oldham and Barnet assistant manager John Dreyer, 60, has been appointed as Maamria's number two.

League One club Burton Albion have signed goalkeeper Max Crocombe and forward Mason Bennett.

Both New Zealand international Crocombe and Bennett have agreed two-year deals after being released by Grimsby Town and Millwall respectively.

Crocombe, 29, made 89 appearances during two years with the Mariners.

Bennett, 26, spent three-and-a-half seasons with the Lions, scoring 11 times in 103 outings after joining from Derby County.

He had a loan spell with Burton in the second half of the 2015-16 campaign, finding the back of the net once in 16 games to help the Brewers win promotion to the Championship.

"I have fond memories here and there's great people around the club," Bennett told the club website.

"It's nice to be closer to home again. The main thing is to play games and enjoy football again."

Crocombe, meanwhile, has previously had spells with Oxford United, Carlisle United, Salford City, Brisbane Roar and Melbourne Victory.

During his time at Oxford he also spent time on loan at Nuneaton, Barnet and Southport.

"I've worked with Max before when I was at Southport when he was a young goalie," Burton boss Dino Maamria told the club website.

"He showed huge potential back then and he's gone on to be an international goalkeeper. I think he fits in really well with what we're trying to do as a club."

Burton Albion have made their seventh signing for the new season with the arrival of defender Steve Seddon on a season-long loan from Oxford United.

The 25-year-old full-back spent the second half of last term on loan at Cambridge, where he helped the U's avoid relegation to League Two.

Seddon moved to Oxford two summers ago from Birmingham City, where he began his career.

He also played under Brewers boss Dino Maamria during a loan at Stevenage.

"I've kept in contact with Dino since we were together at Stevenage and for me it was a no-brainer signing here," Seddon said.

Maamria, who said he wants Burton to be "smart" with their transfer business this summer, said he had been trying to sign Seddon "for the last couple of years".

Seddon joins Cole Stockton, Josh Gordon, Rekeem Harper, Kegs Chauke, Max Crocombe and Mason Bennett as new recruits at the Pirelli Stadium.

Burton Albion have signed Barnsley defender Jasper Moon for an undisclosed fee on a three-year deal following his successful loan spell last season.

Moon, 22, played 18 times last term, helping the Brewers steer clear of relegation trouble in League One.

"It's great to be back. There was a lot of personal growth before," Moon said.

"We had a brilliant team and I've seen the additions [boss] Dino [Maamria] has brought into the team and it's made me want to come back even more."

Maamria said the deal for Moon was one the club "worked really hard on".

"Jasper is a player we know really well and the chairman has been great in making it happen," he said.

"He settled in really well when he came in January and played a massive part in the turn of last season and we're delighted to beat other people to his signature.

"He's a player for now and for the future. He's at a great age and he's a brilliant guy to have in the dressing room."

New deal for Hamer
Moon is the eighth new signing this summer for Burton, who have also announced defender Tom Hamer has signed a new two-year contract at the Pirelli Stadium.

The 23-year-old has played 115 games for the Brewers since joining them from Oldham Athletic in January 2021.

He can operate in either full-back role and has seven goals for the club.

"Tom had interest elsewhere but after a lot of conversations but he decided that this is the best place to spend the next two years of his career," said Maamria.

Burton Albion have made their ninth summer signing by bringing in wing-back Jake Caprice on a free transfer from fellow League One side Exeter City.

The 30-year-old Londoner had a year left on his existing deal at Exeter.

Ex-Crystal Palace trainee Caprice played for Blackpool, Lincoln, Woking, Leyton Orient and Tranmere before joining Exeter in August 2020.

He has also had loan stays at Dagenham & Redbridge, St Mirren and Tamworth in his 386-game career.

Brewers boss Dino Maamria said: "He's a player who's caused us many problems playing against him in the past, but he gives us that experience, that energy and thrust coming back from wing-back or full-back. "

Meanwhile, Exeter manager Gary Caldwell said the club is "disappointed in the manner" of Caprice's departure.

"Jake informed me of his desire to leave in May and I asked him to take time to consider his thoughts over the summer and in the few weeks of return to training, but it was clear that once offered a bigger and better contract elsewhere, Jake's feelings had not changed," he said.

The Brewers, who finished 15th in League One last season, a place below Exeter, start the new season at one of Caprice's former clubs Blackpool on 5 August.

Burton Albion defender Deji Oshilaja has signed a new contract ahead of the start of the League One season.

The 30-year-old joined the Brewers from Charlton in 2021 and played 50 games last term, scoring eight goals.

Oshilaja began his career as a youth player with Cardiff and following a series of loans spent two years with AFC Wimbledon before joining Charlton.

"He's a leader on and off the pitch as well as a huge character in the dressing room," said boss Dino Maamria.

The length of Oshilaja's new deal has not been disclosed.
