Swansea City made a loss of £12.5m for the 2021-22 Championship season, according to accounts lodged at Companies House.

The club suffered a £7.65m drop in turnover as parachute payments from their time in the Premier League ended.

Swansea's operating loss before player sales jumped to £23.12m, with £10.89m generated from transfers including Flynn Downes' move to West Ham.

The figures cover the financial year to June 2022.

They do not include details of recent investment in the club from new chairman Andy Coleman.

Notes in the accounts, though, do confirm loans of £16m were given to the club and then converted into equity by Swansea's US ownership group.

There is also confirmation of external loans as the club worked to manage cash flow, with media payments dropping significantly from £21.67m to £9.29m.

Swansea City expect Ryan Manning, Joel Latibeaudiere and Kyle Naughton to leave the club this summer.

It comes as head coach Russell Martin emerged as the leading contender to become Southampton boss.

Martin had been due to meet Swansea's American owners in Washington DC over his own future at the club this week.

However, the ex-Scotland international has not travelled across the Atlantic and is in the frame to replace Ruben Selles at St Mary's Stadium.

Swansea confirmed in its retained list that Manning, Latibeaudiere and Naughton are expected to become free agents when their contracts expire next month, although it remains possible that not all three depart.

'Sad to lose them'
Speaking ahead of Swansea's final day win over West Brom, Martin said of the trio: "I'd love to keep all three, but we're not at that point at the moment."

He added: "I'll be really sad to lose one of them, let alone all of them."

Swans accounts show £12.5m loss to June 2022
Republic of Ireland international Manning registered 10 assists and five goals in the 2022-23 Championship campaign. He also won the club's Supporters' Player of the Season award.

Naughton has made more than 250 appearances for Swansea since joining from Tottenham in 2015 while Latibeaudiere has been a prominent figure under the current coaching staff.

Michael Obafemi will complete a permanent transfer to Burnley following the conclusion of his loan spell at Turf Moor.

Goalkeeper Andreas Sondergaard will also leave the club at the end of the short-term deal he signed when joining in February 2023.

Academy products Tivonge Rushesha and Daniel Williams, who have both made senior appearances, are to depart when their contracts expire this summer.

At academy level, Josh Carey, Richard Faakye, Zane Myers and Evan Watts have all been offered professional contracts.

However Geoffroy Bony, the son of former Swansea and Manchester City striker Wilfried Bony, along with Sam Leverett, Tarrelle Whittaker, Corey Hurford, Jada Mawongo, David Roberts and Wasiri Williams are to leave.

England goalkeeping coach Martyn Margetson is close to rejoining Swansea City as goalkeeping coach.

Margetson, 51, was on Swansea's staff during Steve Cooper's two-year spell in charge of the Championship club but departed alongside the now Nottingham Forest boss in 2021.

Welshman Margetson is poised to return as part of Michael Duff's new-look Swansea backroom team.

Former Manchester City keeper Margetson will continue his role with England.

He has been on England's staff since being appointed by Sam Allardyce in 2016.

Margetson will follow new faces Martin Paterson and Alan Sheehan, plus club stalwart Kristian O'Leary, on Swansea's coaching team under Duff.

Duff was appointed head coach earlier this month following Russell Martin's departure for Southampton.

Martin has been joined at Saints by four members of his Swansea backroom team - number two Matt Gill, goalkeeping coach Dean Thornton, sports scientist Rhys Owen and analyst Ben Parker.

Swansea City have signed Heart of Midlothian forward Josh Ginnelly on a three-year deal.

Ginnelly, 26, was a free agent having turned down a new contract with Scottish Premiership Hearts.

He is believed to have attracted interest from a handful of Championship clubs and had also been linked with a move to Europe.

Ginnelly is Swansea's first signing since the appointment of Michael Duff as head coach.

Capable of playing as a winger or up front, Ginnelly scored 13 goals in 41 Hearts appearances last season.

Swansea closing in on Exeter defender Key
He scored 22 goals in all for the Edinburgh club, having played 89 times since joining from Preston North End, initially on loan in September 2020 and then on a permanent basis.

Nuneaton-born Ginnelly was at Aston Villa as a youngster before beginning his senior career with Shrewsbury Town.

After moving to Burnley in 2015, he had loan spells at Altrincham, Walsall, Lincoln City and Tranmere Rovers before joining the Saddlers on a permanent basis in 2018.

He joined Preston in 2019 and had a stint on loan at Bristol Rovers before moving to Hearts, where he formed an impressive partnership with Scotland striker Lawrence Shankland last season.

Hearts conceded defeat in their bid to keep Ginnelly this week, saying he would leave despite the club making the "best possible offers to retain his services".

Ginnelly wrote on social media that leaving Hearts was "one of the toughest decisions I've had to make" because the club had helped him through "one of the toughest times of my career" as a result of injury problems.

Ginnelly has scored 38 goals in 213 career appearances.

Swansea City have confirmed the signing of out-of-contract Exeter City defender Josh Key.

Right-back or wing-back Key, 23, was a target for Swansea last season and has been linked with a number of other Championship clubs.

Swansea were unable to agree a deal for Key in the January transfer window.

Though Key's contract has expired, Swansea will need to pay compensation to Exeter because he is under the age of 24.

Key has scored eight goals in 148 senior appearances for Exeter, but turned down the offer of a new deal at the League One club.

He was part of the academy at hometown team Torquay before switching to Exeter at under-16 level.

Key helped the Grecians win promotion from League Two in the 2021-22 season.

Swansea have been short of options on both sides of their defence for some time, with the need for new faces made even more pressing this summer following the departures of out-of-contract duo Joel Latibeaudiere and Ryan Manning, who are both without clubs - for the moment - having failed to agree new deals.

Swansea City have signed striker Jerry Yates from Blackpool, with forward Kyle Joseph moving in the opposite direction in another permanent deal.

Yates joins the Championship side on a three-year deal, for an undisclosed fee believed to be around £2.5m.

The 26-year-old scored 15 goals last season, but that was not enough to save Blackpool from relegation to League One.

"I am really excited to be here," said Yates.

"I hope I can adapt very quickly because I am really looking forward to getting down to work.

"I spoke to a lot of people before coming here, and I wanted to make sure I had the right advice.

"I spoke to someone who has close ties to the club, who played for Swansea and lived in Swansea in Ashley Williams.

"Obviously he gave me some great advice and, also, I have not enjoyed having to face Swansea over these last two seasons. So if you can't beat them, join them."

Yates becomes new Swansea head coach Michael Duff's third signing of the summer, following forward Josh Ginnelly and right-back Josh Key.

Swansea's move for Yates will cast further doubt over the future of Joel Piroe, the Welsh club's top scorer in the last two seasons.

Piroe only has a year to run on his contract and is believed to be attracting interest from the likes of Leicester City and Leeds United.

Yates had been linked with a number of Championship clubs following Blackpool's relegation.

He has scored 46 goals in 139 appearances since joining Blackpool from Rotherham United in 2020, including one in the shock FA Cup win over Nottingham Forest last season.

Yates spent time as a youngster with hometown club Doncaster Rovers before joining the Millers.

He had loan spells at Harrogate Town, Carlisle United and Swindon Town prior to his move to Blackpool.

"I like to think I am an honest player, I am hard working, I will always give 110%," said Yates.

"For me, that is the minimum I expect of myself, even if I am not having the best of games or a tough run, I will never stop working hard for the team.

"You have to work hard with the ball and without; there are horrible sides of the game you have to be prepared to do if you want to be successful.

Jerry Yates and Ben Cabango
Forward Jerry Yates scored 15 goals last season but missed a penalty against Swansea
"It's about that togetherness within the group, you always have to believe in yourselves. There is an awful lot of talent here, that goes without saying, but I think you need a little bit more than talent.

"You have got to be able to dig deep when that is needed of you, and hopefully we will have that this year.

"You have to expect that there is pressure that comes with the job. Like I say, the talent I have seen at Swansea over these last two seasons has been frightening, and I am looking forward to trying to help the team to achieve our goals."

Joseph 'excited by Blackpool project'
Joseph joins Blackpool for an undisclosed fee having spent last season on loan at Oxford United, where he scored 10 goals in 41 appearances in all competitions.

The 21-year-old has represented Scotland at under-18, under-19 and under-21 level.

"This is a move I was really keen on getting done and I'm so pleased to be here," Joseph said of his move to Blackpool.

"The head coach [Neil Critchley] made it clear to me how much he wanted me to come here. With such an exciting project here at the club as well, it feels like a really good fit.

"I want to progress further and help this club succeed, so I can't wait to get started."

Goalkeeper Nathan Broome has joined Swansea City following his departure from AFC Wimbledon earlier in August.

The 21-year-old had his contract terminated by mutual consent at the League Two side and he was free to find a new club.

Broome has signed a three-year contract with the Championship Swans, which includes the option for an additional 12 months.

"It feels amazing to have signed for Swansea," Broome said.

"It's been a long process but I'm glad that it's finally done."

Broome had spells in the youth systems at Stoke City and Manchester City before joining Wimbledon in January 2022, making 13 appearances for the Dons in all competitions.

At youth level, the keeper featured in England's Under-17 and Under-18 sides, where he was first spotted by Swans head of goalkeeping Martyn Margetson.

"My time at Wimbledon came to an end and Marge caught wind of that, whether it was through the England set-up or whatever, that's how the move came about in the end," Broome said.

"I had a conversation with Marge. We spoke about what he can bring out of me, we spoke about his experience and I'm so excited to work with him.

"I've never crossed paths with him, but every keeper knows of him, so I'm really looking forward to working with him. It's a great opportunity every day and one I want to take with both hands.

"I understand my role here. It's not to come here and for someone to say to me 'you're going to play every week'. It's a project, it's for me to work with Marge and push Rushy (Carl Rushworth) and Fish (Andy Fisher).

"My initial aims are to get settled in, start working with Marge and go from there. I want to get on the bench, push every day, and see what happens."

The arrival of Broome in south Wales appears to increase the likelihood that fellow stopper Steven Benda will leave Swansea, with the German linked strongly with a move to Premier League side Fulham.

Swansea City have signed former Crystal Palace and Everton winger Yannick Bolasie on a short-term deal.

Bolasie, 34, has been a free agent since leaving Turkish club Caykur Rizespor at the end of last season.

He trained with Swansea last week and has done enough to convince the Championship club he can make an impact despite his lack of match fitness.

He is available for Wednesday's game at Leeds, and the deal is understood to run until the end of January 2024.

"He's been in, he's looked good. It'll be a two-month deal and we'll see how it goes from there," Swansea head coach Michael Duff said last week.

"We need bodies in the building, we need help. We're not in a position where we can cherry pick the exact player we want."

Swansea are short of natural wide players having lost Josh Ginnelly to a season-ending injury, while striker Mykola Kuharevich is also on the sidelines.

Duff says Bolasie, who cost Everton £25m in 2016, can play as a central striker as well as out wide.

"He hasn't got the pace and power he once had, but you don't get bought for £25m if you don't know how to handle a football," Duff added.

"He can play in any one of those front-four positions. He just gives us a few more variations."

Bolasie first made a mark in English football at Plymouth Argyle, before spending a season at Bristol City and then moving to Palace in 2012.

He thrived during four years at Selhurst Park before joining Everton in 2016. Bolasie had less success at Goodison Park, with his cause was not helped by injury.

He spent time on loan at Aston Villa, Anderlecht, Sporting and Middlesbrough during his spell on Everton's books.

He moved to Caykur Rizespor in 2021, suffering relegation from the Turkish top flight in his first year at the club, but then played a major part in their promotion back to the highest level last season.

Swansea City have signed Brazilian winger Ronald for what is understood to be a seven-figure fee.

The 22-year-old has agreed a contract running until 2027 with the option of a further 12 months.

Ronald has spent the last 18 months playing for Portuguese top-flight side Estrela da Amadora, but joins Championship Swansea from Brazilian club Gremio Anapolis.

"He wants to grow with the club," said Swansea head coach Luke Williams.

"For Ronald to make this step is a clear marker that he is hungry, ambitious and brave.

"It shows his football comes first in his life and that, for me, is something that is very important.

"We have been looking for players who can bring that explosive power at the top end of the pitch, and hopefully we can help Ronald settle in and adapt so he can show us the qualities he has."

Ronald, who had had been on loan at Estrela from Gremio, has become Swansea's first signing of the January transfer window after arriving in Wales over the weekend, with the fee officially undisclosed.

The Swans feel Ronald will offer a blend of pace and athleticism which they have been lacking.

Ronald helped Estrela win promotion from the Portuguese second tier in 2022-23 and has played 17 times in the Primeira Liga this season, scoring one goal.

Swansea's recruitment team, led by sporting director Paul Watson, have identified Ronald as a player capable of making an impact in the Championship.

Chairman Andy Coleman has said Swansea will analyse data on players from around the world as part of their recruitment policy since he took up his post last May.

The Swans are 16th in the second tier, eight points clear of the bottom three and 10 adrift of the top six, with 18 games remaining this season.

Head coach Luke Williams, who has been involved in the recruitment process since being appointed on 5 January, 2024 said last week he expects a "late flurry" of transfer activity before the transfer deadline on Thursday, 1 February.

Veteran Swansea City defender Kyle Naughton has agreed a new one-year contract with the Championship club.

Naughton, 35, had been due to become a free agent this summer.

The long-serving right-back - who can also operate in central defence - will now remain at Swansea until 2025.

Naughton missed the closing stages of the 2023-24 season after suffering a hamstring injury in the derby win over Cardiff City in March.

Head coach Luke Williams has repeatedly spelled out his admiration for Naughton, who joined Swansea from Tottenham Hotspur in January 2015 and has made more than 300 appearances for the Welsh club.

Williams is keen to keep some experienced players in his squad as he prepares for a first full season as Swansea boss.

Naughton is the first of six senior players whose contracts expire this summer to agree a new deal.

The futures of Joe Allen, Jamie Paterson, Liam Walsh, Przemyslaw Placheta and Nathaniel Ogbeta are still to be decided.
