Northampton Town striker Josh Tomlinson, the youngest goalscorer in their history, has signed a "long-term" professional contract.

Tomlinson became the club's youngest-ever player when he made his debut aged only 15 last season.

And he was just 16 years and 321 days when he scored against Arsenal Under-21s in the EFL Trophy in October.

Now 17, he has yet to make his League Two debut but boss Jon Brady says he is rated "very highly".

Brady told the club website: "Despite his very young years, he has a maturity about him and anyone who has seen his performances for the first team will have witnessed.

"To hold the youngest ever appearance maker and the youngest ever goalscorer in the long history of this club is very special and we believe, if he continues his progress and continues to work hard, he could have a bright future ahead of him."

Tomlinson made his debut for the Cobblers youth team when he was 13 and also holds the appearances record with 73.

Northampton Town have signed former Manchester United and Preston midfielder Josh Harrop.

The 26-year-old has agreed a "short-term" deal at Sixfields, having been released by North End in the summer.

Harrop scored in his only senior appearance for United, a 2-0 Premier League win over Crystal Palace in 2017.

He moved to Preston the following month for an undisclosed fee and also had loan spells at Ipswich and Fleetwood during his time at Deepdale.

Harrop has been training with the Cobblers for the past few weeks and could be in contention for his debut in Saturday's home game against Carlisle.

Jon Brady's side are third in League Two, having lost to Mansfield Town in last season's play-offs.

Northampton Town are hoping to agree a deal to "at least the end of the season" with former Manchester United and Preston midfielder Josh Harrop.

The 27-year-old was signed on a short-term contract last month, having been released by North End in the summer.

But he has not yet been fit enough to make his debut for the League Two club.

"He has worked intensely in terms of training but has picked up a couple of niggles along the way," boss Jon Brady told BBC Radio Northampton.

"We've given him an opportunity and he's working hard to prove himself.

"He needs to do a fair bit more but we know from his history that he is a good player - and you can see that technically he's very good."

Brady added: "We're working on something to try and keep him in the building until at least the end of the season."

Northampton Town defender Aaron McGowan has signed a new two-and-a-half year contract.

The Cobblers' 26-year old vice-captain is now tied to the promotion-chasing League Two club until 2025.

"He is a warrior," said Northampton boss Jon Brady. "Someone who will run through brick walls for the club.

"Aaron's a leader in the dressing room. Someone who is an ideal role model for the young players to look up to. A top character and a good player too."

Listen to the BBC Radio Northampton's The Cobblers Show podcast
McGowan had only six months left on the two-year deal he signed when he arrived from Scottish side Kilmarnock in July 2021.

He has so far made 57 appearances so far in his 18 months at Sixfields.

McGowan started his career at Morecambe, making his debut aged 16 before going on to play north of the border, first with Hamilton Academical then Killie.

The Cobblers lie third in League Two, as they bid for an instant return to the third tier.

Ex Squires Gate player

Northampton midfielder Jack Sowerby has signed a new deal to stay at the League Two club until the summer of 2025.

The 27-year-old has made 91 appearances for the Cobblers since joining from Fleetwood Town in 2020.

He joins Jon Guthrie, Mitch Pinnock and Aaron McGowan in signing fresh terms with the promotion chasers this season.

"On and off the field, we are building a culture at the club that players want to be a part of," Northampton boss Jon Brady told the club website.

"Jack is a player who goes about his business in a quiet and efficient way and is someone who is very important to us."

Northampton Town have made their first signing of the January transfer window by bringing in Barnsley midfielder Will Hondermarck for an undisclosed fee.

The 22-year-old made 17 appearances for the Tykes after joining them in 2021, but his only starts this season came in the EFL Trophy.

Born in France, Hondermarck began his career in the League of Ireland before moving to England with Norwich City.

He has agreed a two-and-a-half-year contract with Northampton.

They are third in League Two and away to Barrow on Saturday before a February programme in which Walsall, currently 11th, are the highest placed of their opponents.

"Will is a player we have identified and have been pursued for some time including in previous transfer windows," said manager Jon Brady.

"He is a powerful, athletic and mobile box to box midfield player who can play in a number of positions and roles.
