Caley Thistle 2-2 Ayr Utd

No Huddersfield game today so Amelia and I took a short 396 mile trip north to the Caledonian Stadium to see Caley play Ayr.

What a cracker of a game it was too. Nathan Shaw opened the scoring after a good nod on off a high ball sent him clear to round the keeper. And it was 1-0 at the break despite Ayr coming close. Closest was almost an own goal though so one nil it was.

Thistle were well on top after the break and it was only a matter of time before the second would come, when United went and equalised. It was a returning player who caused the damage. Logan Chalmers, on loan from Dundee United, with a good turn on the halfway line, and a good turn of pace got him into the penalty box. It looked like his threat had been dealt with but the ball fell to Mark McKenzie and he finished the move off. 1-1.

Chalmers, with the Jack Grealish style head, was on loan at Inverness last season and was being booed as is the norm with football fans, but it was he who was running the show now. It was another loanee who played the decisive ball to put Ayr into the lead though.

Alex Kirk, on loan from the Arsenal playing the powerful looking ex Welling Utd striker Dipo Akinyemi in for a one on one. He never looked like missing. 2-1 to Ayr.

Caley didn't deserve to be behind, but that's football for you. However, some outstanding midfield play from Welsh and Carson and Oakley who had just come on in place of the lively Boyd, put Shaw in with a chance to equalise. And he took that chance, in the 87th minute, planting the ball in the corner of the net to set up a grandstand finish.

Both sides had chances to win it, but when the ref blew for time after a lengthy injury to Ayr's Kirk, it was still locked evenly at Inverness Caledonian Thistle 2, Ayr United 2.

The referee by the way was much better than the pathetic idiots we have in England. He didn't fall for any of the gamesmanship that some of the Ayr players were coming up with. Even when Kirk was injured badly he never gave a foul and the Caley fans were booing his time wasting. Even when he was being stretchered off he was still getting booed, so convinced they were by his acting. Laugh

I'll post some pictures when we get home. Not brought the laptop with us.

It was a bit wet on the way up. Caught a giant wave from a lorry coming towards us going through a flooded bit of the A9 last night. Had a coach right up my arse as well.

That was a bit scary. Confused

It was a good game actually, despite the fella in the shop we visited earlier and the steward on the turnstile trying to put us off! We're at Fort George just now which is a good day out. We went to Cromarty yesterday. Ullapool tomorrow. So far, apart from the hairy weather between Stirling and Inverness on the way up, we're being quite lucky with the weather. Thankfully that stretch was Snoots' turn to drive!

Fort George is amazing. We also had a short visit to Findhorn Beach. Looking forward to Ullapool. We go back on Tuesday. It's been too long since we were here. I hope it's not as long til we come again.

Unfortunately not. That was why we went to Cromarty as well.
