Truss Watch Activated

I'm opposed to nuclear power stations and have been for years for the reasons previously prescribed. Today Truss suggesting even installing nuclear stations in Scotland - BECAUSE ENGLAND NEEDS THAT POWER!!!! Thumb down A case of f### off - DO IT ON YOUR OWN PATCH, IT AINT GONNA HAPPEN!!! From a Scottish concept, IMO we don't need nuclear stations and the Scottish govt shares that view as well and as a matter of following the clean energy policy at its disposal. Also note that Scotland with 8.4% of the UK's population has 25% of the UK's renewable energy and 85% of its hydropower. Of interest to you: Scotland has 25% of EUROPE'S offshore wind and tidal power and 10% of Europe's wave power potential; also note Scotland has 50% of the world's tidal stream capacity - located in Scottish waters. Scotland can easily be energy self-sufficient with the proper inward investment and commitment to achieve that goal. We are already close to that target. And we could sell a lotta that surplus energy to England as an independent country. Also question why on earth Scotland (energy companies), as an energy rich country, are paying exorbitant prices to connect to the National Grid while similar companies down south ARE PAID TO CONNECT TO THE NATIONAL GRID!!!????? Curious eh!! There have been previous SNP govt requests (to Westminster) to stop that practise! Unheeded btw! And it is even more curious when discovering our energy tariffs and standing charges are higher than in London and the south of England. Scotland is an energy rich country and will improve even further in the years/decades to come without any nuclear energy supplementation. That aspect has been consulted on and studied by independent energy experts/academics who have thankfully set out solid and achievable energy provision for the future. That naturally leads to a simple question: How does Scotland, with an unmatched abundance (energy included) of economic advantages, have a smaller economy than any similar-sized independent northern European nation?? An easy answer eh - these countries (eg Ireland, Finland, Denmark) are independent!! They are not saddled with the dead weight of a distant and dysfunctional Westminster govt. We've been held back by generations of Westminster's economic mismanagement and incompetence (Truss govt confidently included btw!) and Scotland's true wealth is hidden by nothing more than "accounting trickery". Norway, with similar natural assets and population, has an economy twice the size of Scotland's economy (plus a massive £1T+ Oil Fund!) - BECAUSE IT IS INDEPENDENT!! PLEASE TELL A FRIEND!! Lots more people need to be made aware of said discrepancies and solid reasons for Scotindy.

I totally agree with you regarding the potential of Scotland's natural energy, but it needs to be utilised to the full in the next few years, producing something which could be sold to the National Grid by an independent Scotland. Which is probably why the Westminster Government is scared of Scottish Independence.

As for nuclear power, it's too late to build new nuclear power stations as they'll take about 15 years to come on stream. We need to solve the problem of energy infrastructure now to benefit before 2030. I've always believed it's far too late to control global warming now. It should have been done 50 years ago when it was first brought to our attention.

The damage has already been done, so we'd better get used to growing olives and citrus fruits in our gardens in the near future.

Yep! Although I must say mitigation measures really should be taking place by people with the full political commitment to the cause of tackling climate change. Many politicians elsewhere are trying very hard, but clearly difficult under very trying circumstances! Bear in mind today Putin playing politics with energy by threatening to freeze Europe this winter - scary stuff!! There's a good bbc prog that covered the corrupt influence imposed on past US Presidents by energy companies like Exxon, Shell and many others. It is so enlightening how the US stalled on taking proper measures, over 20 years ago, due to lies and corruption, infiltration by "decepticons", lotsa whistleblowers. Obama even fooled by these people within his own administration eg "clean gas" being the future fuel in the US for the next 100 years - utter crap!! Biden finally kyboshed the whole practise, now belatedly trying to change it. Most alarming here in the UK is the apparent similar unhealthy links between Truss and the likes of Exxon and the tobacco industry through financial donations to the likes of certain Tory think tanks like the IFS.

Cronyism again eh! As the Tories continue to tear themselves apart as nothing radical has changed in the formation of a replacement Brit govt - a political shambles!!!

Am i right in saying that this cretins first act since the ERG chivvied her into power is to remove the cap on bankers earnings ?? Seriously ?

Cutting taxes doesn't deliver growth - the last 12 years have seen huge cuts in taxes and delivered nothing of the kind.

Brexit ? Already we know it's been a disasater, it's increased red tape, made it harder to do business with Europe and hampered a US trade deal.

Levelling up ?? Anyone with a household income under about £60k p.a. can forget about Levelling Up - it's more like 'let them eat cake"

She favours "trickle down economics". Reflect back to Thatcher, her political heroine btw, who similarly practised this flawed philosophy and it failed miserably. I notice President Biden also poo-pooing it yesterday. What actually happens is the wealthy people, who she clearly favours, effectively keep their cash and it doesn't do what Truss infers: trickling down across the population and creating many happy citizens - a totally flawed concept that favours the rich backers/elites who are bankrolling the Tories and a puppet like Truss. It is well seen that Truss has never read Adam Smith's book, The Wealth of Nations Rolleyes Clearly not the brightest light in the hoose eh!!

Somehow removing the cap on bankers earnings is going to help with levelling up !!!!

Trickle down to the tories means keeping the poorest in abject conditions, the lower and middle classes terrified of falling into that bracket, and the upper classes completely minted.

Biden clearly thinks she's a fuckwit and has taken pleasure already in exposing that.

If the guy that founded Cuadrilla says its a busted flush, why are these dickheads getting so excited about starting it all up again?

Mentioned again in Parliament by Ed Miliband - https://twitter.com/i/status/1572896455496704006 along with the basic fact that any gas that makes it's way out of the ground will not be sold to this government at a discount.

And Truss now touting that "old chestnut" of resurrecting the establishment of more grammar schools. Again wasn't that another flawed idea that was mooted during Johnson's premiership? And lotsa reputable educationalists criticising this proposal as flawed, much like before. I previously compiled a lengthy thread covering the divisive nature of the two tier ed system and how wealthy people invest in their kids' future knowing the benefits they can reap with private school ed compared with the 90%-95% of our kids who are not being privately educated. A good example of this kinda benefit is the hugely disproportionate representation of people who are selected to participate in the Olympic Games - well over 50% who are privately educated and yet they comprise about 5% of all our educated kids!! Thumb down IMO there should be equal opportunities for all our kids, not just for the select few. Truss's plan is similar in the fact it favours these select groups of people who see this type of divisive action as providing them with that kinda advantage over the majority of kids who participate in the state school education system. It is fundamentally flawed, unfair and wrong!!
