Portsmouth defender Sean Raggett has signed a new two-year contract with the south coast club.

The 28-year-old centre-back was voted player of the season by Pompey fans as the team finished 10th in League One.

Raggett has made 142 appearances and scored 13 goals for the club since moving from Norwich in 2019.

"I'm really pleased. I've been here for three years now and have loved playing for Pompey in that time," he told the club's website.

"I said when I first arrived that my aim was to get this club into the Championship and that's still the case."

Striker Reeco Hackett-Fairchild has signed a new two-year contract with Portsmouth to remain with the club until the summer of 2024.

Hackett, 24, joined from National League side Bromley in 2020 and has made 35 appearances for the Blues.

He scored four goals for the club in League One this season.

"I picked up an injury last season and that was frustrating, although I was pleased with how things had been going before that," Hackett said.

"In a lot of the games I was used as a wing-back, which isn't my natural position, so there was plenty of learning for me there.

"I probably improved as a player overall because of that, so hopefully I can kick on this season and really show what I can do."

Portsmouth manager Danny Cowley added: "There's still a lot more to come from him and he's someone who can be used in a variety of positions, while he also has tactical intelligence."

Portsmouth midfielder Michael Jacobs has signed a one-year contract extension with the south-coast club.

The 30-year-old has scored nine goals in 54 appearances since moving to Fratton Park in September 2020.

Portsmouth finished the season 10th in League One, with Jacobs scoring seven times.

Jacobs made 188 appearances for Wigan from 2015 to 2020, scoring 32 goals and winning promotion to the Championship in 2017-18.

"We're really pleased to be able to extend Michael's contract because he played a pivotal role in our good run of form at the back end of last season," Pompey boss Danny Cowley told the club's website.

"He brings quality to our side and has an amazing ability to find space and unlock opposition defences to create and score goals.

"Michael also has an excellent set-piece delivery and so we're delighted that he's staying with us for another season."

Portsmouth have re-signed midfielder Marlon Pack on a two-year deal following his exit from Cardiff City at the end of the season.

Pack, 31, began his career with hometown club Pompey and made two first-team appearances before leaving in 2010 for Cheltenham.

He made over 280 appearances for Bristol City and joined the Bluebirds in 2019, playing more than 100 times.

"Marlon ticks so many boxes for us," said Portsmouth manager Danny Cowley.

"He's a ball handler and has a fantastic range of passing, while he's very good in the defensive transition.

"His positional play is excellent and there's so much to his game, but we're also excited by the leadership he'll provide off the pitch."

Portsmouth have signed Arsenal defender Zak Swanson for an undisclosed fee.

The 21-year-old has agreed a two-year deal at Fratton Park with the club holding an option to extend his contract a further 12 months.

Swanson, who joined the Gunners aged six, failed to break into the Premier League side's first team, although he did make six appearances for their under-21s in the EFL Trophy.

He also spent the 2020-21 season on loan at Dutch side MVV Maastricht.

"We've highlighted that we want to try to bring talented young players to the club," Portsmouth manager Danny Cowley told the League One club's website.

"Zak is exactly that and brings an energy and athleticism to our squad after a fantastic footballing education at Arsenal.

"He's technically very good and has lovely passing skills, along with the ability to manipulate the ball in tight areas.

"There are still areas of the game for him to work at - like with all young players - but it's an exciting signing because we see the growth in Zak."

Portsmouth have signed former Preston North End defender Joe Rafferty.

The 28-year-old has agreed a two-year contract at Fratton Park following his release by the Championship side at the end of last season.

The right-back played 72 times for Preston after joining them from Rochdale in January 2019 where he played more than 250 games in a six-and-a-half-season spell.

He is the third new player to move to Pompey so far this summer.

Portsmouth have signed goalkeeper Josh Griffiths from Championship side West Bromwich Albion on a season-long loan.

The 20-year-old spent last season on loan at League One rivals Lincoln City, where he played in 33 games, and previously had a spell at Cheltenham.

"He's one that we've been patiently waiting for," manager Danny Cowley told the club website.

"He will certainly provide a physical presence in the box and he's incredibly mobile."

Griffiths had to sit out the tail end of last season with Lincoln after picking up head and ankle injuries.

The England Under-21 international impressed in a previous loan-spell with Cheltenham in 2020-21 and helped them secure the League Two title.

The 6ft tall (185cm) shot stopper kept 23 clean sheets - the joint-highest in the division at the time.

Griffiths has progressed through the West Brom academy after joining the club at the age of 10.

Portsmouth kick-off the new League One season away to Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday, 30 July.

A new loan goalkeeper was always likely this summer. Danny Cowley looked at a number of targets but Griffiths was always the first choice despite uncertainty about whether West Brom would allow him to leave.

He's got big shoes to fill following Gavin Bazunu's impressive loan last season.

The move is likely to mean an end to academy graduate Alex Bass' Portsmouth career. The 24-year-old had an impressive spell as number one back in 2020 but has made just two league appearances for Pompey in the past two seasons.

Portsmouth's squad is getting stronger but they still have no senior strikers at the club just 16 days before the season starts.

Portsmouth only took the option to extend Marcus Harness' contract earlier this summer but were always open to selling him if the price was right.

They rejected two bids from Championship clubs earlier this week, Ipswich were the only club to meet their valuation.

The arrival of Joe Piggott means Pompey finally have a striker on their books two weeks ahead of the season.

He struggled at Ipswich last year but has a good record in League One and, importantly, can't be recalled in January.

Portsmouth have signed former Tottenham goalkeeper Josh Oluwayemi on an initial one-year deal.

The 21-year-old was released by Spurs earlier in the summer, having never made a first-team appearance for the Premier League club.

Oluwayemi, who has a further 12-month option on his Portsmouth deal, featured for Pompey in a pre-season friendly win over Havant & Waterlooville.

Portsmouth boss Danny Cowley said the keeper has "plenty of potential".

"He's an incredible shot-stopper and is also good with his feet, so we're delighted to bring him to the club," Cowley told the club website.

It's a signing - but not the one Portsmouth were hoping to announce. The Blues are set to miss out on striker Colby Bishop despite having a deal agreed until Blackpool gazumped them at the last minute.

Oluwayemi will be the backup for loan signing Josh Griffiths, obviously impressing head coach Danny Cowley earlier in the summer when on trial.

The move pushes Alex Bass even closer to the exit door, with either a loan or permanent departure now inevitable. Highly-rated young stopper Toby Steward is likely to head out on loan for first-team experience.

Pompey have their goalkeeping position sorted but still have a lot of work to do to get the other end of the pitch right before the season starts at Sheffield Wednesday on 30 July.

Portsmouth have signed striker Colby Bishop from Accrington Stanley.

The 25-year-old joins on a three-year deal for an undisclosed fee with a club option to extend it by a further 12 months.

"We've had to be patient," manager Danny Cowley told the club website.

"We had an offer accepted for Colby and there was also Championship interest - we were a bit nervous. We spoke with him and told him to take his time and make an intelligent decision.

"Ultimately, he's chosen to come here - and that's brilliant."

Bishop joined League One Accrington Stanley in 2019 and made 123 appearances for the club, scoring 39 goals in all competitions.

It was his second professional contract after three seasons playing non-league football when he also worked as a primary school teacher.

Portsmouth start the new League One season away to Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday, 30th July.

You can debate whether this transfer has been a saga or a soap opera but however Portsmouth landed Colby Bishop head coach Danny Cowley will be ecstatic to sign his top striking target.

Demand has exceeded supply for forwards in League One so to land Bishop for a fee of about £500k is a huge boost and means Pompey's recruitment plans are finally falling into place.

The Pompey number 9 shirt has weighed heavy in recent years with the likes of proven goalscorers John Marquis and Tyler Walker struggling to make an impact.

But Bishop is a fighter who spent four years in National League North before getting a second chance in the EFL, firing Pompey back to the Championship is the next challenge for him to attack.
