BINFIELD V WARRINGTON RYLANDS

Warrington Rylands 1906 Football Club is a football club based in Warrington, England. The club currently plays in the Northern Premier League Division One West, is an FA Charter Standard Club and its nickname is the Blues.[1]

History
The club was founded as Rylands F.C. in 1906 as a works team from a manufacturer of wire.[2] The club started playing in the Liverpool County Football Combination league and then joining the Warrington & District Football League.[3] The club had to wait until 1928 before winning their first Silverware, the Depot Cup.[4] The 1950s saw the club became champions of the Warrington & District Football League Premier Division 6 times in a row, commencing from the 1953–54 season.[5]

The 1968–69 season saw the club join the Mid-Cheshire League.[6] The 1980–81 season saw the club finish as champions of the league, as well as make their debut in the FA Vase.[6] The club collected another league championship trophy in the 1983–84 season.[6] In 2008 the club merged with fellow Mid Cheshire league side Crossfields F.C. becoming Crossfields/Rylands F.C.[7] After two seasons, the club reverted to Rylands F.C.[7]

On 15 July 2016, Wayne Rooney's agent Paul Stretford stated he is aiming to get Rylands to the Football League after investing £100,000 on ground improvements.[8] On 2 April 2018 the club published a letter from Paul Stretford which confirmed his proposed takeover will proceed, subject to due diligence.[9] The 2018–19 season saw the club move to Division one south of the North West Counties Football League, and winning it at the first attempt, so gaining promotion to the Premier Division.[10] In the 2019–20 season the club took part in their first-ever FA Cup qualifying campaign.[11]

The club announced a name change in August 2020 to Warrington Rylands 1906 FC to reflect their locality.[12]

Ground
The club play their home games at Gorsey Lane.[13] Floodlights were added to the ground at the start of 2019.[14]

Rylands will not be competing in this tournament next season as they have been promoted to the Evo Stick League

FA Vase Final: Warrington Rylands 3-2 Binfield FC - Nevitt treble secures trophy at Wembley

Elliott Nevitt's hat-trick gave Warrington Rylands an historic FA Vase final victory against Binfield FC in a five-goal thriller at Wembley.

Nevitt flicked in from close range to put Rylands ahead, but Liam Ferdinand headed Binfield level.

Moments later the striker restored the lead with a penalty before sealing his hat-trick with a header on the hour.

And Ferdinand then pulled a goal back midway through the second half in an action-packed final.

Nevitt became the first player to score a hat-trick at Wembley since Harry Kane completed the feat in England's 7-0 victory against Montenegro in November 2019.

Shortly after Nevitt's first, Andrew Scarisbrick delivered a pinpoint cross to Jack Tinning who was poised in a dangerous position inside the six-yard box, but goalkeeper Chris Grace beat him to the ball to deny Rylands a second.

Binfield centre-half Tom Willment had a half-chance just after the half-hour mark, but his ambitious long-range shot went wide of the post.

In a chaotic end to the first half, Nevitt's shot was blocked by Liam Gavin, but an immediate Binfield counter-attack resulted in Ferdinand heading in from six yards for the equaliser.

But Rylands, who began their FA Vase journey in the first qualifying round in September, instantly regained their lead after Charlie Doyle was fouled in the box, and Nevitt powerfully converted the spot-kick for his second.

David McNabb's side appealed for another penalty 10 minutes into the second half after Nevitt was brought down in the box, but referee John Busby waved it off.

Nevitt eventually got his third, as he connected with a corner to head home for the hat-trick on the hour mark.

But Ferdinand doubled his tally in the 67th minute, his effort from the edge of the box beating goalkeeper Graeme McCall for his sixth goal in five games in the competition.

Hero Nevitt had a brilliant chance to score his fourth late into stoppage-time, but he failed to make the most of the chance when in acres of space.

The victory comes just four days after confirmation of Warrington's promotion to the Northern Premier League West Division - step four of the non-league pyramid - and just three years after they left the step seven Cheshire League.

Warrington Rylands manager David McNabb told BBC Radio Merseyside:

"I didn't even hear the final whistle, I just saw people running around. I didn't really know what was going on, and then it just sort of clicked.

"[I feel] pride. Just pure pride. The players deserve all the credit.

"Elliott is a fantastic player, he's a great lad, he's so down-to-earth, he's such a nice kid. He's a massive part of the group and the way we play.

"We can't think that because we've won this today that next season will be easy because it won't be.

"We're playing against some massive teams who are steeped in history in non-league and we're just starting out.

"We are ambitious, we want to go and try to win things, but that will be the toughest challenge yet starting in August."
