Nicola Sturgeon finally begins the process of separation!
I am loathe to bring up the wording again, but "once in a lifetime" and "one opportunity" were slogans by the SNP/Yes Campaign in the lead-up to the Independence Referendum. Equally the Unionists/No Campaign made stupid statements as well, but that's politicians for you.

I suppose everyone's views will depend on whether they won or lost.

This is an old topic and I must say I don't wanna dwell on it either but may I just add that these statements were never "promises" as many shameless Tories have insinuated down the years. The "generation one" is clearly used with impudence and to "get a reaction" - the politics being used has definitely degenerated to that level and these statements are being politically misused as usual to try and stifle momentum towards Scot self-determination. I think many politicians get "caught up" in saying things that they may regret later on. Remember Johnson calling Scots "vermin" in a Spectator poem all these years ago - hurriedly removed by the editor but far too late as it was viewed by lotsa angry Scottish readers and just sums up this impudent c### who also vilified Liverpudlians years later - A RACIST FULLY EXPOSED AND THAT IS JUST THE "TIP OF THE ICEBERG"!! However, people like myself and millions of others are not dwelling on an individual or individuals who came out with such statements where the premise is it means there is not gonna be a referendum because of said statements blah blah blah - BULLSHIT!! Circumstances have changed beyond all imagination since 2014 and who cares about such infantile reference to statements to suit a bogus and undemocratic political argument from a bunch of fascists who have no interest in Scotland and intent on "ripping us off" as they've done for decades and decades with a big chunk of our population still happy for them to shit on us - NOT ANY MORE!!

Wasn't it 'once in a generation' ? I dunno.

One thing for certain, there was nothing in the Edinburgh agreement to bind Scotland to a vote 'once in a generation or a lifetime'. Nothing at all.

It's all moot anyway as there likely wont be one until we are out the woods with the pandemic and its effects and that will likely be years.

You're right jim, my mistake.

For me, the earliest we can expect to organise IndyRef2 is 2022. Then another year to hold it and act on the result could take us to 2023, then possible negotiations over independence could take another 4 years (God forbid) which is getting close to a generation away anyway.

The bit I'm looking forward to is the SNP arguing that it makes sense to break ties with the RoUK, our largest trading partner, in complete contradiction to their argument against the UK leaving the EU.

The Brexit argument can work both ways though Ritchie. The SNP just need to get some snappy slogans for the next time....and a big xxxx off bus.

Of course it can, jim, it just depends whether it suits them or not. I'm not interested in snappy slogans, I just want to listen to the debate.

Watching closely what the Scot Labour Party is doing and it was curious to see their leadership candidate, Monica Lennon, hitting out at the Labour Party "wheeling out" the likes of Gordon Broon, the Fife quisling. Methinks Monica is in the wrong political party after finally seeing sense! Well done for speaking out as an independence voice against Starmer's "one-size-fits-all" philosophy! She understands Scotland and Starmer clearly never will lol! Meanwhile the Scot Labour Party will cease to exist if it persists in clinging to British apron strings. It's either Scottish or it is not!!! And it isn't at present. As for the regular "wheeling out" of that Fife quisling Brown? Well that is political suicide on stilts and esp if the c### is consulting with fascist Tory bastards like Michael Gove as suggested in some media channels. Lennon's quest will fail anyway as the Labour Party is a Unionist one and I suspect a huge chunk of their membership will never "stomach" being patronised for supporting Scotindy and will "walk away" from a SLP that prob should've added an independence label to their SLP title a long time ago. Too late now I'm afraid!!

Most people in the indy movement want a national debate on the most common issues that unionists try to pulverise Scots with. They know there is a contrary argument that covers the economy, currency, border issues etc etc etc - it is not one-sided!! May I also add there are lotsa conversations covering these issue in Yes Hubs all over Scotland. This pandemic and relative lockdown measures have obviously hindered the Scotindy campaign but these online events are happening. A good example is the Hopin event this month - an open debate, prob the biggest one, that covers the controversial Growth Commission report and titled Moving Beyond the Growth Commission. Note entry is free for low-waged or unwaged folk. It takes place on 25 February from 3.00pm to 7.00pm and is repeated on 27 February from 1.00pm to 5.00pm. Various guest speakers like Tim Rideout will be present. Note there are five sessions covering lotsa issues like the Scottish economy, currency and monetary framework etc, the kinda stuff that anyone who is interested in Scotindy should be debating and picking up useful info re their main concerns for the future. There will be more future events like this kinda stuff - very useful and informative.

Keatings case thrown out basically.

This was not unexpected coming from a "neutral" court judge, Carmichael, ruling in this way at the Court of Session. Keatings to move it to a higher court. Not over yet and his comments to The National are enlightening incl reference to the 11 point route plan to Scotindy that has just recently been compiled.
