Hibs FC and coronavirus - our Chairman's statement!
#21
Aye Jim! Hibs vote was affirmative and Aberdeen and Rangers opposed. I'm assuming Hertz will be opposed as well. The 10 June deadline for the outcome of our "top league" will be the same IMO. Our footie authorities just delaying because of that previous UEFA statement that could affect the Scot Premiership.

Can anyone explain what the xxxx just happened ? Laugh

Hibernian FC today confirmed that it has voted to support the resolution put before the 42 clubs by the Board of the SPFL.

If passed, this will mean the lower leagues will be declared completed due to the unprecedented coronavirus pandemic. Placings have been decided on average points per match basis. It is expected that greater clarity on guidelines from UEFA will be available later this month to inform any potential decision-making around the top-flight.

The club appreciates that such an outcome will not be agreed by all and has sympathy for those clubs who will be detrimentally affected. Indeed, our own club will suffer some negative impact in that we will be demoted by one place and see a subsequent reduction in prize money.

However, there is no 'silver bullet' that would provide a remedy suitable for all clubs, and with 30 matches played Hibernian believes there is no genuine or realistic prospect of bringing this season to a conclusion by playing eight rounds of matches without potentially creating massive disruption to next season as well as this season.

The top priority for Hibernian throughout this crisis has been the welfare of its people, supporters, and the wider community. Whilst Hibernian, like every club, would rather the season could be played to a conclusion, all the available evidence suggests there is no prospect of an imminent return to training or safely playing matches. In that context we believe the SPFL resolution is the 'least worst' available option open to our national sport.

And it comes to pass that Inverness Caley Thistle reject the proposal and therefore it is rejected by 1 vote (with 3 votes to go)!!! Oh well, IMO some Scot footie clubs will "go under" after this rejection - nae money and already teetering "on the brink"! I'll be curious to see what the SFA and SPFL officials will say in their official statement. League reconstruction???

Well there is 28 days for the one club in the Championship that has yet to vote, if they vote yes then it passes.

Interesting - ICT and Patrick voted no --- but Dundee did not supply their vote and are thinking of changing their mind.

They have produced a counter proposal which involves Dundee Utd staying down Laugh Which is mental, but they clearly want some kind of reconstruction of the league.

What a xxxx mess SCO.

UEFA meet again on the 23rd and I wouldn't be surprised if they tell the associations to go with final placings if they can.

I suspect this will be resolved pretty soon one way or another. Hertz can barely afford a bus fare up the toon never mind legal action and with Dundee's history they will not be wanting to send clubs into oblivion with their nonsense amendment. Sevco just want to stop Celtic being awarded the title but privately wanted it to pass so they can get the prize money (and the way they were playing 2nd place wasn't exactly cast iron either)

In the end it will go through in some form. Im pleased we did the right thing for Scottish fitba, unlike some.

Absolutely. Ron Gordon's official statement was a pragmatic one even though the club are obviously gonna take a financial "hit".

Leeanne on sportsound being relatively upbeat about closed door games being played later in the summer, around July/Aug. But much depends what happens elsewhere.
