I actually think Corbyn has played this clever mate. By letting the WA pass but delaying the programme this means it will require a third reading by which point it will have been amended into oblivion by all and sundry. Labour can now go to the electorate and pitch a soft Brexit from them...... or bojo's deal v remain.

Labour leave MPs can go back to their seats and say 'we didn't try to stop it' It holds the party together as they head towards a GE. It's the smart move.

Meanwhile when the detail of this deal is gone over by some of the sharper minds in the house - I'm looking at the likes of grieve,benn,starmer etc it won't stand up to scrutiny.

Yep! I reckon there are two "split camps" in the Labour Party. One of them is "chomping at the bit" to have a General Election and I suspect that Corbyn is actually in that group because he fancies himself as a natural electioneer who loves campaigning "on the streets" and convincing voters re his agenda for the future. The other camp is a more pragmatic and "thinking" one with lotsa advisers and strategists working out the most effective political move v an opponent/government that is desperate and is also weak due to its lack of any majority, down by 43 MPs. The last thing any opposition wanna give them at this particular time is a General Election and I've said this in previous threads even though I do recognise that this could be detrimental to the Scotindy "cause" as it is clear that there would be a massive victory for the SNP with so much "ammunition" available to "fire" at the hypocritical Scot Tories who are actually "taking the piss" out of the Scottish electorate with impunity and most knowledgeable, free-thinking Scots realise that now as it becomes clear their political party up here is leaderless and rudderless plus "honeymooning" with such a hated figure like Johnson, after all their previous anti Johnson shit, is "political suicide" - THEY ARE IMPRESSING NOBODY UP HERE APART FROM THE USUAL EXTREMISTS AND RW SECTARIAN SCUM (AND RACISTS!!) WHO SOMEHOW REGARD THEM AS THEIR "PARTY OF THE UNION". IMO the Tories can keep this horrible minority group! The indy movement does not need or want them anyway.

Incredible really, that the Brexit minister Barclay did not know that trade between NI and UK would require customs documentation....quiet extraordinary. Watching the NI minister Julian smith getting his arse handed to him by the DUP on the subject earlier was truly painful to watch.

I genuinely don't think Boris,barclay or smith actually have read this document......yet there the tories are hopping up and down with rage that parliament didn't just wave it through in 2 days.

Blows my mind how irresponsible, entitled and corrupt this government is.

Now that we're heading towards a General Election (thankfully I'll be away for 3 weeks from mid-November) we can all look forward to another hung Parliament with no progress on any front, other than managing to alienate large sections of the population.

This is a good Guardian article re Rogers criticism of Johnson's EU/Brexit position and a fitting comment by Rogers is that, "It is diplomatic amateurism dressed up as boldness and decisiveness". It just sums up Johnson as the "lightweight" figurehead PM that he actually typifies with his unimpressive behaviour and policies and yet this buffoon is unbelievably close to becoming a PM who will be ultimately elected by a big chunk of English voters, many of whom make a "big deal" of a posh spoken Old Etonian PM being the only choice, and the "macho pre-requisite" has to be part of his persona - NUTS and backward thinking but it still exists in England!! To "fast track" a trade deal really is political fantasy and a con TBF and this "nightmare" will not disappear any time soon as the country polarises even more and well into next year 2020.

As this is possibly the best thread to post under, as Brexit has not been done yet, I'd like to raise potential problems re Boris' amended Bill. Presumably the Bill will successfully pass through Westminster, but it still has to approved by the EU. That is, all of the EU27. Is there any chance that one of them might take exception to one of the amendments?

Well wasn't that the suspicion from many of Johnson's parliamentary opponents Ritchie incl an ex member of the "real" Conservative Party, the deposed Dominic Grieve and of course, Nicola Sturgeon, that he is untrustworthy and will leave unacceptable demands in the bill, thereby resulting in a "no deal" Brexit. Then they turn to the country with their next con: the EU left us with no option but to leave with "no deal". Johnson's and Cummings' threatening antics from mid August onwards kinda "gave the game away" that they wanted that extreme outcome as per the demands of their wealthy backers like Banks and others who told Farage to back off. Johnson has a majority govt and the lunatics in the English electorate will be delighted while people in England who genuinely wanna stay in the EU and realise the massive negative implications to them and their communities, will literally have "no voice" (well done Corbyn and Swinson ) unless they somehow unite and mobilise but to do what??? They won't bring down this govt and I notice the PM preaching the "Golden Age for Britain" (???????) - remember David Cameron's "High Society" bullshit and, of course, Trump's "make America great" soundbite!!!!! Saint Charles Owl I'm sure will comment on that line where "the stoopid voters", as Trump called them, will naively take in anything that has a "good feel" attached to it but, in reality, it is just a con created by some cynical "spin doctor"!! THIS IS A NIGHTMARE WAITING TO HAPPEN AND IT IS A POPULIST CONSPIRACY THAT HAS MATERIALISED AND IS GONNA CREATE HUGE PROBLEMS FOR THE COUNTRY. WHAT ANGERS ME MORE THAN ANYTHING IS THE FALSE ASSURANCES THAT THESE SHAMELESS BASTARDS ARE UTTERING AND ARE BEING ALLOWED TO GET AWAY WITH IT ALTHOUGH THAT SCENARIO IS VERY DIFFERENT IN SCOTLAND WHERE MOST OF THE POPULATION 1.
