If the Scottish referendum had ended 52/48 in favour of independence then it would have to be respected because it would be the will of the people.

That happened in 1979 (51.6% voted for a Scottish Assembly) and Thatcher didnae respect it - just a Scottish advisory poll! You can contemptuously "get away" with anything if you have the undemocratic political will and courage to do so! IMAGINE HOW FAR SCOTLAND AND SCOT INDY WOULD'VE ADVANCED IF THAT REFERENDUM HAD BEEN HONOURED IN 1979. I WOULD MOST CERTAINLY HAVE BEEN A SCOT CITIZEN OF AN INDEPENDENT COUNTRY AND BREXIT WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN A SCOTTISH PROBLEM!

To be honest I don't blame him for walking away from the press conference. If he had done it he would have been shouted down and drowned out by the protests outside the gates. Most press conferences outside are done in the back of the gardens not in front of the main building in front of the gates, that's just odd. I think the Luxembourg PM was trying to show him up in front of the press and cameras but he doesn't need any help to do that as he's completely capable of showing himself up.

There is no new deal it's all smoke and mirrors. He will be like that kid at school who left his homework to the last minute so they copy and paste the topic off Wikipedia and then just rewrite by changing words here and there and that's what he'll do with May's deal, he'll just change the words and language of it to make out that it's a completely new deal, hoping that Parliament will vote it through.

Blowjo has no interest in negotiating a deal, nor does he plan to. He doesn't have the intelligence required anyway.

I think he will still try to force the country out without a deal.

Yep! I totally agree with that view and I think the Luxembourg PM alluded to that suspicion in part of his speech with Johnson in absentia. I can still see some form of Emergency British Government being established through a parliamentary consesnsus when Johnson and his RW fascists try to make their undemocratic and illegal move towards a no deal Brexit - finally tell him to get tae xxxx out of his false position as PM, a Tory bastard through n through and a lying one as always!!

Watched the Lib Dem conference and the speech by Jo Swinson. 0762 or hibeejim21 is she really Scottish? There were times in her speech where it sounded like her real accent was about to come through. It went from Scottish to like a posh London accent and then Cornish. If you watch different interviews she's done the accent changes.

"Our" Jo was born in Glasgow and went to a state school, but then went south to the LSE, which might explain the mixed accent. Then she got elected as an MP and performed the ultimate cardinal sin of jumping into bed with the Tories in 2010. End of story as far as Scots are concerned.

A good "spot" Matt. This woman is an utter hypocrite and a fraud and as for her wee preaching pal, the Scot LibDem non-entity, Willie Rennie, this man fae Fife has been consistently scolded and ridiculed in the Scot Parliament by Nicola Sturgeon for years. Somebody should inform this pair that the Scot Indy movement is massive and yet they impudently "ponce about" in denial and act as if they represent the needs and interest of the Scottish people. There is a very good old bbc footage/video from 2014 that shows this pair sitting amongst all their unionist buddies (Tory, Labour, LibDem) and listening to the anti indy "oracle", none other than that quisling of a minister's son, the hated ex Labour PM, Gordon Broon - totally enlightening to any indy supporting Scot and a great Scot indy recruiting video - all the liars/hypocrites seated together!

I will never forgive the Lib Dems for what they did to me and my generation by trebling tuition fees up to £9k because they got a whiff of power. The Lib Dems are Tories by another name and probably as just as bad as the Tory Party.

She's from a place called Milngavie in East Dumbartonshire in Glasgow, now I was taught English at college by a guy who came from Dumbartonshire and he was a big supporter of Man United and Dumbarton FC and he had a rather thick Scottish accent and he lived in Greater Manchester and never lost his accent.

When you hear her speak it sounds like her accent is all over the place like she's slowly losing her accent and has developed a posh English London lilt. Ritchie says she went to LSE and that could be why, unless she is changing her accent like Thatcher did.

Michael Gove is another one who's accent is all over the place.

I must add that the region from E Dumbartonshire through to Helensburgh and east to Lomond and Balloch (to a lesser extent) is a "mixed bag" of predominantly strong Scottish accents blended in with what I would call "well to do posh Scottish accents" many of whom have been privately educated and had these engendered "artificial posh accents" forced upon them from an early age. Many kids around the Helendburgh/Rhu area are also linked to English naval personnel from Faslane. Swinson does appear to be different and seems to have "adapted" her accent to the point where it suits her profile but it is a con.
