Worcs 222 Lancs 96-5

A cold breezy day saw Worcs win toss and post what could be a very useful score, batting was not easy, but if you managed to get in as D'Ojivera and later Davies did you could score runs. Useful contributions from Clarke and Fell, the picture is Fell walking back to the Pavillion. Lester, Bailey and Onions pick of Lancs bowlers.
Lancs 2-2 Hameed and Jones in Tongue's first over. Bowled well did tall Josh. Pennington struggled a bit and it was 61-3 when I left but now 96-5 advantage Worcester

Chasing 314 and we send a night watchman to open with Hameed, smacks of desperation. Only got there just in time to see the ninth wicket go down, usful 61 lead for Worcs and a fairly low scoring game.
Second oddity why not open with Bailey in first innings given he is leading wicket taker in Division 1. Him and Onions bowled well but some decent watchful batting including a fifty for Parnell should really ensure they win this game, thought about not going after all we will likely have lost by 2pm but it's the last day of cricket probably on home soil this season so best take advantage of it

Here's a picture of people dicking around during overs

Apparently it's a record run chase victory at Southport, and to get 314 you need a bit of luck which we got.

Suicidal run out of Lester was not the start we needed, Hameed's call, Davies and Hameed batted well the latter batted for an hour had just hit a super cover drive when nicked one behind. Jones lasted 2 balls.
Davies looked well set before playing a rash shot.
Croft and Vilas decent partnership until Croft edged one behind. Clark's innings as Davies last inings for the county on home soil.
178-6 Worcs slight favourites, after tea we attacked two large shouts of LB both of Mitchell, he then dropped a hard chance from Vilas, a few Chinese cuts but credit Bohannon attacked from the word go. Vilas skie one that dropped between two fielders and thought this is our day, the winning run a Chinese cut by Bohannon summed up the way it went.
Top result season kept alive and they were queueing to get in.
Love watching at Southport far better than Coporate Sold Trafford

Today I was reading one of Dickie Birds cricketing books . There's a whole chapter on various groundsmen all around the counties  when Dickie was umping . One team even called their home groundsman their 12th man !!

When wickets tumble like this in one day it certainly looks like a ' homer ' . The umpires of course will report the state of the wicket and I shall watch with interest for  the outcome . Whistle

Very true CF at Old Trafford we produce wickets that when flatten out produce bore draws although with Lancashire's lack of batting we often lose.
Somerset set 78 to win Croft battled well for 51 and Livingstone slogged a quick 39.

Somersetb 27-5 no we can't can we?

52-6 AT TEA

Lancashire Cricket Club is delighted to confirm the signing of Northants seamer Richard Gleeson on a three-year contract with immediate effect.

Gleeson, a 30 year-old from Blackpool who came through the Lancashire system, has only been playing First Class cricket for the last three seasons after previously impressing in Minor Counties cricket with Cumberland, whilst working for Lancashire as a Cricket Development Officer.

His record for Northants over the last three years is impressive across all three formats. He has made 22 First Class appearances taking 83 wickets at an average of 22, 21 List A games taking 28 wickets at an average of 29 and has taken 34 wickets from 31 T20s at an average of 23.

He made his debut for England Lions on their tour of the West Indies earlier this year, whilst Gleeson also played in the North-South series in Barbados in March.

Lancashire Head Coach, Glen Chapple said: “We’re really pleased to have signed Richard on a three-year contract.

“He’s a quality fast bowler and is a player that will strengthen our attack in all three formats of the game in the coming years.”

The tall right-arm bowler played a key role as Northants won the T20 Blast trophy at Edgbaston in 2016 where he took 14 wickets in 10 games at an average of 16. He also had the lowest economy rate in the competition of less than six runs per over.

Richard Gleeson, added: “I’m over the moon to have signed for Lancashire.

“Growing up in Blackpool, it was always a dream of mine to play for my boyhood county and this was an opportunity I couldn’t turn down.

“I’m so thankful for the opportunity Northants have given me over the last three years, but I feel that this is the perfect move for me at this stage of my career and I’m really looking forward to returning home and representing the Red Rose.”

Gleeson will be available for Lancashire’s final two Specsavers County Championship matches of the season against Yorkshire at Headingley and Hampshire at the Ageas Bowl.
