Wolfsburg are doing their bit for Hamburg by losing 2-0 at HT to Leipzig, but Hamburg are themselves down 1-0 at Frankfurt, so no change this weekend so far. Freiburg are also losing so if Hamburg can somehow get back in the game then they still have a chance to get out of it altogether.

Cant believe Wolfsburg in a relegation battle, decent squad I`d imagine more top six
Just looked at Divock Origi`s record there and it`s been not great, Liverpool`s next Erik Meijer!

Currently watching Hamburg’s first game of the new 2.Bundesliga season. It’s the season opener for the league and they chose this derby between Hamburg and Holstein Kiel.
It’s 0-0 at half-time with both teams attacking well but very loose defensively. Both are playing out from the back and that is causing the centre backs to make mistakes. Hamburg have made the worse mistakes with Pollersbeck doing his best impression of Manuel Neuer and the two centre backs especially Bates looking very uncomfortable with the ball at their feet. Bates and van Drongelen are not the first choice pair which explains a poor understanding between the two. Papadopolous and Jung will be the first choice pair when they return from injury.
Formation wise, Hamburg are playing a 433 in possession which is a 4141 out of possession. Kiel are playing a typical 4231 which is a deep 442 out of possession.
If it was Köln or Union Berlin against this current Hamburg defence tonight, they would be a couple of goals down at half time. They must do better in the second half.
Hamburg 0-3 Holstein Kiel at full time.
Naive and toothless from Hamburg. It was actually sad watching them get dominated in that second half, such a big club going through hard times. Titz has a lot to learn from tonight. Playing out from the back is a good thing but trying to do it all the time even when the opposition has them smothered is naïve and reckless.
Köln and Union Berlin would have been 5 or 6 past them tonight.

Much better from Hamburg this afternoon with a 3-0 win away at Sandhausen.
They still took risks at the back which a better team would have punished but they were generally more solid at the back and had a good threat going forward through Narey and Jairo. There is still work to be done before they can start to think about challenging in the top 2 but the young squad is getting more experience each week and are adjusting to the new surroundings.
I still expect Hamburg to end the season in May in the top 3 behind Köln and Union Berlin who play against each other tomorrow night.

The long awaited Hamburg derby between Hamburg and St Pauli finished 0-0.
Hamburg are up to third now 1 point behind 2nd place Greuther Fürth and 5 behind leaders Köln. An Union Berlin win tomorrow will put Union into second and Hamburg out of the promotion places.
Ingolstadt 1-2 Union Berlin.
Union back into second and Hamburg drop to fourth.
The pressure on Christian Titz increases.

Christian Titz was sacked this week and replaced by Hannes Wolf.
Wolf’s first match is on BT Sport right now.
Magdeburg 0-1 Hamburg at full time.

The Hannes Wolf revolution continues. Since he took over Hamburg have played 7 matches in all competitions (6 league and 1 DfB Pokal). Overall it’s 6 wins out of 7 with the only dropped points coming at home against Union Berlin in the league.
The football is not as pure as it was under Christian “The Ricky Gervais lookalike” Titz but it’s more organised and the defence is much stronger.
