Mammoth centuries indeed for ex-Captain Cook and Root 66. Dawid Malan doing okay after coming in at a really tricky time, facing the new ball under the lights. Cook now needs to avoid his usual trick of batting through a whole day and then losing his wicket first thing the next morning (or afternoon in this instance).
We'll see how the ball behaves in cloudier conditions tomorrow, but on the evidence of today England should be heading for a hatful of runs and a declaration. Only worry is whether our own bowlers will fare any better. Good to see a packed house most of the day, though it thinned out at sundown. Some of that may be the temperature, some of it the need to catch trains to Worcester, Tamworth, Leamington etc; it's an important consideration with day/night cricket in this country that a lot of people travel into the city from outlying towns for Tests, and the transport links aren't always brilliant. Still, the Eric Hollies stand was giving it some hommer at the end. Some fun'll be had on Friday and Saturday night! Rain forced an early close, West Indies trail by 470 with one wicket down. Play will start half an hour early on the remaining days to make up the lost overs.

Calypso collapso. Nineteen wickets in a day and an innings victory. Piece of cake, this day/night business

Decent morning for the West Indies on the first day of the second test although dropping a sitter off Root may come back to haunt them big time. Still problems at the top end for England though

Not seen any of this but 61-3 at Lunch sounds like it's been a bit of a struggle.
