Both sides head into this one-day series looking to build momentum for the Champions Trophy which begins at the weekend (though England and South Africa won't play their opening fixtures until June). England are among the favourites on home soil, but South Africa remain the world's top-ranked one-day side, having won a record-equalling sequence of twelve ODIs from September through to February.

Jos Buttler is expected to be preferred as wicketkeeper for England, while Ben Stokes returns from his first season in the IPL having earned the title of Most Valued Player for his performances, though Rising Pune Supergiant could undoubtedly have used his expertise in a low-scoring final that they lost by a single run. In Amla, de Villiers, du Plessis and de Kock South Africa have a wealth of attacking talent with the bat, and in Imran Tahir the world's top ODI bowler, alongside the talented young Kagiso Rabada.

AB de Villiers is expected to make the South Africa team, having been ruled out of the warm-up fixtures against Sussex and Northants due to illness.

Good start for South Africa, England 3-1 in the second over after Jason Roy nicks one behind from Wayne Parnell. Home side rebuilding now with Hales and Root in the middle. Many unhappy with the exclusion of Bairstow from the line-up.

Phehlukwayo gets Hales first ball, caught behind. England doing okay though, need Root and Morgan to keep the scoreboard ticking for another ten or twenty overs and then make a big push for 350 or more.

Awful, awful effort from Root. Stokes survives an LBW shout soon after with an inside edge. Need a solid partnership here from Stokes and Morgan, keep the run-rate up and get to forty overs with plenty of wickets standing.

Add two wickets to any score! 190-3 becomes 198-5 as Stokes and Buttler go in quick succession. AB de V out-thinking England. England trying to rebuild with Moeen at the crease, but overs running out.

The onus is on Morgan now, England need to be posting closer to 350 than 300. Ten overs to go, 237-5.
