The "frictionless border" line has already been shown up for the nonsense it is. The great fear is that northern Ireland collapses back into conflict. A lot of nationalists went with devolution and the peace process through having easier links to the republic. And whether we agree or not,they lost a lot in that war too.

May seems in complete denial at how hard this is going to be. The EU ambassador made it quite clear the day and he has huge experience in this area....and has run a mile from brexit.

I can only surmise that the "frictionless border", whatever that means, is between the UK and ROI. I would imagine that Scotland, England and Wales all have similar borders with ROI through the ferry ports and airports.

As far as the Article 50 vote result is concerned, I can't believe anyone is the least surprised at the vote. Unfortunately all that will happen now are months of arguments, head-line grabbing quotes and vicious lies and recriminations from both sides, followed by years of difficult Brexit negotiations which won't please anyone. At the moment, I feel like reaching for the off switch and going back much later to switch back on to see what has happened.

I listened to Ken Clarke last night when he said, 'He was voting with his conscience' and, before siding with the SNP, chided his Tory colleagues and others to do the same, his final warning being 'remember my advice in years to come when such folly will be proved right and to the huge detriment of our nation'! Unfortunately it will be too late in years to come!!! As for this PM, Theresa May, I'm more n more convinced we are being led down a cul de sac by the wrong people/the wrong government, indeed the main perpetrators of this whole shambles that should never have materialised - what a travesty while we also watch the political shambles that is simultaneously developing 'across the pond'! I despair!

Ditto on that score hibeejim and it really is a surreal feeling to watch this fiasco unfold and we are powerless to change it and knowing this is not a correct move for the good of our country! IMO one major problem is there is no great leadership! Indeed I'd elaborate on that criticism and say there are no heavyweight MPs any more and consequently there is nobody around who really can convince people to vote overwhelmingly for something such as a remain vote! There appears to be a similar politically degraded prob in Europe as well and as for the USA? Well we've observed that alarming phenomenon first hand and debated it almost to exhaustion! IMO the world is poorer for that loss and god only knows where it's gonna take us!

Some of you lot are as bad as the Quebequois in Canada used to be. Do you really want to keep tossing the coin until you eventually call heads and it actually comes down heads and do you think many of us that aren't Scots will actually give a toss if it does? Given the vote ourselves many of us would have happily pushed you into the North Atlantic and washed our hands of you, or at least your politicians. Once the voting public of Quebec realised that the rest of Canada didn't give a shit about them they soon got handed their arses on a plate at the following election. History has a funny habit of repeating itself. Your taxes and prices will go through the roof for a start, so you'll all want to move or come shopping over the border. You can go do one as far as i'm concerned if you think you are using our Pound so that leaves your Pound or the Euro. Good luck with aligning yourselves with Spain, Italy and Greece on that one. Nearly all the little buggers that have joined the EU recently can't get their hands on the Euro fast enough as they fear their own currency will disappear in a puff of smoke in spite of what has happened to those on the Med. Your call if you really want to toss that coin again. By the way - I voted remain too but you know what, it was a whole country vote, not a constituency by constituency vote, so just get on with it and make the best of it we can. Pulling in sixteen different ways from Friday is not going to make dealing with the rest of the world or Europe easy if we all want to take our own bat and ball home every night and go sulk in the corner because we didn't get our own way.
