I didn't realise Fonte was 33. On that basis, I think you're right, not sure what we'd gain in the long run as we need to put a younger centre back in with Evans.

I certainly hope this is reliable as these stories usually are. relatively happy with Livermore but on Ighalo

Do we really want to pay for £17 million (reported) for a striker with a 2 in 19 scoring record with 1 assist? Last year he had a great year scoring 17, but has failed to hit anywhere near that form this year and we must judge him on what he is doing over what he has done. Even Big Vic has a better record this season 3 in 10, would we look at bringing Big Vic back for £17 million, as statistically he is a better striker this season? Also remembering GMac has 5 in 23 and Matt Phillips has 5 in 22 with 9 assists, £17 million for a 2 in 19 striker is way to expensive in my book.

We may of course sign him and he proves a great success, but is it worth risk at that price? For me, putting my casting head on this calls for....................... Next!!

Sado Biryani had a great scoring record 2 years ago but is still apparently worth £12m - So on that basis £17m seems about right.

Hopefully Ighalo will be rejuvenated at West Brom and strike up a great partnership with Rondon.

I'm amazed at people unhappy with Igahlo
£17 Million maybe to much agreed but he had 13 goals in 19 games in the premiership last year,
Him Rondon, Chadli, Phillips up top ...........
We also have to remember the £17 Million is last years £12 Million thanks to the big boys spending stupid Money,
He also has a 1 goal in 3 game record for Watford even though he has struggled this year,
Throw in Livermore's £10 Million probably last year's £7 Million represents a decent buy,
Especially as he has played most of this season as CB,
So any injuries like the one we have to Evans makes this seem a lot more sensible

Looks like West Brom will unveil Jake Livermore tomorrow. Club hope deal will be done in time for him to be eligible for Sunderland.

Livermore will be a very good signing in my opinion and he will give us competition for Fletcher, Yacob and Morrison and can cover centre back if needed. Here is his performance stats for this season - http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jake-live...eler/61832

16 matches in central midfield/defensive midfield and 9 as a centre back so good versatility this season.

I'm not so sure about Ighalo based on how he has done this season and during the second half of last season but a new club and a different style of play could be what he needs.

To be honest, as nice as the talk of Schneiderlin et al was, the fact is that we're always going to be behind the likes of Everton in the transfer queue. People who roll out the "they'll go to whoever pays the most money!" line seem blissfully oblivious that Southampton have spent years now trying to flex their financial muscle... and yet mysteriously, every time one of their best players - or, indeed, their managers - get to jump ship for Everton or Spurs, they're off like a shot. And that's not going to change, no matter how much money they have.

So the job for this transfer window is simply to get some slightly younger blood in, and Livermore fits the bill nicely. Welcome aboard, Jake.
