Liverpool defender Joel Matip and West Brom's Allan Nyom have not been named in Cameroon's 23-man squad for this month's Africa Cup of Nations.

The duo were among seven Cameroon players who said they did not want to play in the tournament, which starts in Gabon on 14 January.

They could have been banned from club football during the competition.

But a potential club versus country row has been defused by their non-selection in the final squad.

This is great news, if Cameroon had picked him and Nyom decided not to go it could have got quite nasty for the club with FIFA sanctions. Fair play to Nyom who showed his alliegance to us by wanting to stay and continue to fight for his place in the team. I think we have a true baggie in the making with Nyom.

Brokenmanrepaired, I think your right, rare nowadays for players to show such commitment to their clubs ..... despite a lot of fears from some quarters about buying a Watford reject ....... he is proving himself to be a talent and a future Baggies legend. Won't reach the dizzy heights of Decca Statham but off to a great start.

The club have distanced themselves from Shane Long speculation - not totally surprised. I'd like to think we will invest better than that and I don't want to ruin great memories of his time with us

Probably thought he would get to play anyway - what do you think?
