When I have questioned this previously I have been told in the past by US 'Rounders' fans that the competitions name originated from an early 1900's magazine called 'World of Baseball' sponsoring the post regular season playoff games - hence the World series - nothing to do with geography at all.

Also the majority of teams are located in the NE and Mid west because originally all the traveling between cities and games relied on the rail network in place at that time.

Amazing the useless knowledge acquired after being here 23 years.

Congratulations to the Cubs. Couldn't stay up for the whole game, but what an exciting finish it turned out to be.

Best game I have watched for quite a while, congrats to the Cubs.
Nothing great will ever be achieved without great men, and men are great only if they are determined to be so. For glory gives herself only to those who have always dreamed of her.

Unfortunately I think its going to be a lot closer than people think/expect. Listening to NPR this morning there appears to be a lot of parallels with Brexit in the demographic voting splits based on polling. Doh
If you decide you need to exit to Canada, can you pick me up on the way? Whistle

Of course we could go visit Imre instead Cool and I will drop by for you and SCO.
