Plymouth Argyle have signed former Swansea City full-back Nathanael Ogbeta.

The 23-year-old was a free agent and is the club's first signing since Wayne Rooney was appointed as head coach last week.

The former Manchester City and England youth player spent the second half of last season on loan at Bolton Wanderers and has also had spells at Peterborough United and Shrewsbury Town.

Argyle have not disclosed the length of Ogbeta's contract at Home Park.

“Nathanael joins us from good pedigree having come through the ranks at Manchester City, and he has also had successful spells at Bolton and Shrewsbury," Rooney told the club website, external.

“He comes to Argyle looking to take the step up to Championship level on a consistent basis, and we believe he has all the attributes to do that and become a pivotal member of the squad.

“He is quick, good on the ball and provides balance on the left side of defence.

"I’m sure the fans will enjoy watching him play and I look forward to welcoming him to Plymouth Argyle when we return to pre-season at the beginning of July.”

Midfielder Will Jenkins Davies has signed a new one-year contract with Plymouth Argyle.

The 19-year-old has made 11 appearances for the club and spent last season on loan at National League side Torquay United.

He made 33 appearances for the Gulls, scoring seven goals, and Argyle revealed they had offered him a new deal in May.

"I am buzzing. All I have known is Argyle since I was young. I joined the club when I was seven and it is a club that has nurtured me all the way through to this stage," he told the club's website., external

Plymouth Argyle have signed midfielder Darko Gyabi on a season-long loan deal from Leeds United.

It will be the 20-year-old's second loan spell at the club, after first joining in January this year.

Gyabi made 10 appearances for Argyle last season before suffering a groin injury in March that meant he had to return to Leeds for the remainder of the campaign.

"I heard really good reports about Darko from his time with Argyle last season and since watching him closely I was really keen to bring him back to the club," head coach Wayne Rooney told Argyle's website, external.

“He fits the profile of midfielder I like to have within the squad, as he is good on the ball, powerful and athletic, and will fit the style of play I am looking to implement."

Plymouth Argyle youngster Freddie Issaka has agreed a new four-year contract with the Championship club.

The deal will begin when Issaka turns 18 next month and means the highly rated forward is under contract at Home Park until 2028.

“I think it shows a lot of trust from the club to want to keep me on for that long," he told Argyle's website, external.

"It's time for me to show that I owe it to the club, I deserve it and I've earned it. It’s time to work hard."

Issaka became Plymouth's youngest-ever player when came on as a substitute in an EFL Trophy game against Newport County in 2021, just 34 days after his 15th birthday.

He has made six league appearances, all as a substitute.

Plymouth Argyle have signed Netherlands Under-21s winger Ibrahim Cissoko on a season-long loan from French club Toulouse.

The 21-year-old moved to the French top flight side last season for a reported 3m euros (£2.5m) from NEC Nijmegen and has also spent time at VVV Venlo and Vitesse Arnhem.

He scored one goal in 14 appearances for Toulouse last season, including one start in the Europa League.

He is the fourth new signing since Wayne Rooney took over as Argyle boss in May, following the arrivals of Nathanael Ogbeta, Muhamed Tijani and Darko Gyabi.

Plymouth Argyle have signed Icelandic international Victor Palsson on an undisclosed contract.

The 33-year-old central defender joins from Belgium side KAS Eupen where he made 36 appearances last season, scoring two goals.

He reunites with boss Wayne Rooney, who was Palsson's coach during his time with MLS side DC United.

“I am really pleased we have managed to bring Victor to Argyle,” Rooney told the club's website, external.

“He is someone I know well having worked together at DC United, and he brings extensive experience to the squad.

“Alongside that, he knows the system we are looking to implement, is good on the ball and will form an integral part of the squad moving forward. I’m looking forward to working with him again as the season approaches.”

Plymouth start their Championship season on 11 August when they travel to Sheffield Wednesday.

Plymouth Argyle have signed Hungarian defender Kornel Szucs for an undisclosed fee.

The 22-year-old has arrived from Kecskemeti, who play in Hungary's top flight.

He can operate as a centre-back, right-back or right wing-back and is Argyle's sixth signing of the summer.

He joins the club after Dan Scarr was sold to Wrexham for an undisclosed fee on Friday.

“He is a very talented young player, able to play in several defensive positions.

"As well as his versatility, he is very athletic, is comfortable on the ball, and is well suited to the way we want to play.

The club have also signed Nathanael Ogbeta, Muhamed Tijani, Darko Gyabi, Ibrahim Cissoko and Victor Palsson so far this summer.

Plymouth Argyle have signed Burnley striker Michael Obafemi on loan for the rest of the season.

Obafemi, 24, started his career in the Premier League at Southampton but has found regular football hard to come by in recent years.

He spent the second half of last season on loan at Millwall but could now make his Argyle debut against QPR on Saturday lunchtime.

Obafemi has 12 caps for the Republic of Ireland, scoring twice in the Uefa Nations League in 2022.

Plymouth Argyle have signed goalkeeper Daniel Grimshaw from Blackpool for an undisclosed fee.

Grimshaw, 26, began his career at boyhood club Manchester City but left for the Seasiders in the summer of 2021 on a free transfer.

Having signed his deal at Home Park after the midday deadline, Grimshaw will not be available for Argyle's trip to Queens Park Rangers on Saturday.

Grimshaw played both of Blackpool's league fixtures so far this season and will wear the number 31 shirt at Argyle.

Plymouth Argyle have signed free agent goalkeeper Marko Marosi on a short-term deal.

The 30-year-old Slovakian comes in as cover for the injured Conor Hazard and will stay at Home Park until at least January 2025.

The former Wigan Athletic, Doncaster Rovers and Coventry City player had spent the last three seasons at Shrewsbury Town, where he played 147 games.

He will provide competition for new signing Daniel Grimshaw in Hazard's absence.
