Philip Hughes dies - Lord Snooty - 27-11-2014 Bit of a shock really. I expected him to pull through. Where does this leave the game now? I guess there will be a review of the game. Most likely that they will look at improvements on headgear. Doubt they will outlaw a bouncer....... RE: Philip Hughes dies - WakeyTerrier - 27-11-2014 Absolute tragedy, got to feel sorry for the bowler as well. RE: Philip Hughes dies - Lord Snooty - 27-11-2014 It must be a nightmare for the bowler. Although a total freak accident, he has killed somebody and he'll be going through hell right now. RE: Philip Hughes dies - spireitematt - 27-11-2014 Helmets have got to be changed and upgraded so they protect the whole of the back of the head. It could have happened at anytime in any match. RE: Philip Hughes dies - themaclad - 27-11-2014 Very sad RE: Philip Hughes dies - Lord Snooty - 27-11-2014 Thinking about it, it's a miracle this hasn't happened before. Wanging a missile at somebody's head at 90 mph. RE: Philip Hughes dies - St Charles Owl - 27-11-2014 Very sad news!! It really is a freak accident, first time I have heard of it happening in cricket yet the bouncer has been around for decades. No need to change the rules, but a helmet that protects the back of the skull will have to be looked at. I suppose most balls end up glancing off after the batman tries to get out of the way, this one must have just hit the right spot!! As said before, the bowler will need some support after an incident like this!! RE: Philip Hughes dies - Lord Snooty - 27-11-2014 They said his injury was like that of a high speed car crash. What would be a nice outcome to all this would be for the players, not the rule makers, but for the players themselves to cut out short pitched bowling. And for the crowds to politely let anybody know their displeasure at anybody who does. I have never thought bouncers were a good tactic and our English team do it all the time without being any good at it. |
