Hartlepool issued with HMRC winding up petition - Devongone - 07-02-2018

Hartlepool United have been issued with a winding-up petition by HM Revenue & Customs over an unpaid tax bill, their fourth in the past 18 months.

Pools have until Wednesday, 21 March to pay a sum in the region of £48,000 or risk being wound up at the High Court.

The petition comes with the Victoria Park club up for sale and facing serious financial problems.

Supporters raised money to meet wages and other costs in January, which the club say total £200,000-per-month.

Hartlepool recently urged individuals potentially interested in investing in the club to join together to form a consortium, in the hope it could lead to new ownership.

After losing their Football League place after 96 years with relegation last season, the current campaign has also been a disappointing one for Hartlepool.

They are currently 18th in the National League table, just four points clear of the relegation places.

In modern day football 48k is such a small amount of money to save a club!! Not advocating that other clubs should step in because this won't be the only financial hurdle they face that needs an injection of cash but it would be great to see a benevolent donor from within the game step up and do something.

Jeff Stelling should step in.

Alternatively....

Hartlepool have called in the police to investigate .......... financial mis-management? I'm sure Jeff Stelling could and would step in. He DOES love the club, but he'll probably have to keep doing it and the sums might not always be £48,000.

Very sad!

That is always the dilemma for potential saviors in these situations, the 48k is likely to just be the tip of the iceberg but there is probably no way of knowing how much ice is under the surface. This won't be the only cash they need over the coming months, whoever steps in needs to be prepared to keep stepping in, and I would imagine Jeff Stelling doesn't have that sort of money.
