CHECKATRADE TROPHY - Devongone - 07-12-2016 Don't think the much-criticised successor to Johnstone's Paint Whatsit is really set to take off. On here we don't seem to have noticed it exists at all, and have archived the Paint for historians of the future. Though BBC website lists only the EFL Cup it does provide the EFL Trophy results if you've an hour to spend unearthing them, and it does also provide a three-line description of Chesterfield's game. Apparently we beat Rochdale in a penalty shoot-out. The 0-2 scoreline and a goal coming from a first-half header should perhaps have been a clue that something was wrong .......... And we worry about made-up news on social media. 985 turned up to watch currently-successful Scunthorpe win, and 56 travelled from Chesterfield to Rochdale. Don't think it's worth starting a thread. Pretend this never existed. RE: CHECKATRADE TROPHY - spireitematt - 19-12-2016 (07-12-2016, 17:00)Devongone Wrote: Can you imagine if we win it and its then scrapped. I did prefer the old format to the JPT. This new format means playing more games over the season and majority of fans don't really care about it. RE: CHECKATRADE TROPHY - spireitematt - 11-04-2017 There is going to be a vote by L1 and L2 clubs on scrapping the competition now. What a shame, it was great competition under the previous format when Johnstone Paint sponsored it. RE: CHECKATRADE TROPHY - themaclad - 12-04-2017 Think the competition was ruined by putting B teams in due to the ego called Shaun Harvey. Also some of the group fixtures were ridiculous Cheltenham in the same group as Blackburn total nonsense. Nothing wrong with the old JPT except the powers that be were trying to sneak B teams in by the backdoor RE: CHECKATRADE TROPHY - Devongone - 12-04-2017 Cheltenham in the north and Coventry in the south seemed geographically challenged. The biggest trouble is/was the teams involved weren't really bovvered. Chesterfield fielded as many reserves as we could get away with. It is not as if the first choices are worth watching. Nobody came to watch the old Paint Splash either, so it isn't just the introduction of under-age teams that is the root of the problem. If like T20 cricket the rules were different and the games inherently quickfire and exciting that might breathe life into the Checkatrade, but at the moment the participants are unglamorous and the games don't even create enough interest to feature on teletext or the BBC website .... RE: CHECKATRADE TROPHY - themaclad - 12-04-2017 And some B teams played overseas players as well total farce really RE: CHECKATRADE TROPHY - spireitematt - 12-04-2017 (12-04-2017, 17:00)themaclad Wrote: And some B teams played overseas players as well total farce really Stoke played Peter Crouch and Norwich played a few French players but Luton and a few other teams got fined for sending out a few youth players which was a joke. It needs to go back to the old format with North/South teams. RE: CHECKATRADE TROPHY - themaclad - 12-04-2017 Bob on the money with that Matt |
