MK Dons @Deepdale 16/4/2016 - themaclad - 13-04-2016

On 3/5/2015 the Dons were celebrating a 5-1 over Yeovil combined with our 1-0 defeat at Colchester saw Franchise leap above us on the last day of the season to take the last promotion place. Their fans laughed at us that day, fast forward nearly 12 months and the Dons are heading back to were they came from back to League 1. They need snookers to avoid relegation and hopefully on Saturday we will be the ones to apply the finishing touch to their one season stay in the Championship.
It all started so well for them winning their first match 4-1 against Rotherham before reality kicked in the week after by losing to us.
Always was going to be a season of struggle having lost Alli, Afobe and Grigg who scored 46 of their goals last season, they have struggled to replace OAP Alex Revell having scored only a couple and the useful Carl Baker now spending time on the bench instead of the pitch.
They have also lost keeper Martin to a season ending injury with replacement keeper Crooper having a nightmare in last weeks hammering by Rotherham. Suspect the vast majority of fans will be quite happy that Franchise are being almost certain to be relegated in fact it could not happen to a better club although sadly it is a decent away trip.
A week off for the Whites hopefully Clarke and Hugill will be fit although think Woods will miss the game, could almost be time for Beckford to get a start, be nice to win this one which would give us 59 points.
Won't be a sell out doubt whether Franchise will bring many suspect they have all gone back to supporting their other clubs.

Well this was a shocker, very poor North End performance today and the only good point about it was that MK Dons have still to register a win against us and today was the best chance they will ever get..
Grayson made a few changes with Beckford making his first start of the season after a couple of cameo's as a substitute. He had an early chance to score but his tame shot was easily saved by Cropper. The Dons were on top playing their usual passing game, forcing some early corners but North End took the lead in their next attack, long ball down the pitch flicked header by Doyle, Beckford in acres of space 1 up thank you very much. Time to sit back and wait for the avalanche of goals that would follow, but it did not happen, the Dons created chances, Walsh went close with a header, Carruthers just failed to get on a through pass and Lindegaard saved well at his post from a Maynard.
When North End woke up they looked like they could score at will but chances were not put away which would come back to haunt us later. Mr Attewell was not having the best of games penalised us for anything although he did play a god advantage just before half time when the game got a bit tetchy.
Within 10 minutes of the restart the Dons were level, not great defending or goalkeeping, Dons got in fairly easily down the left wing the cross was fumbled by Lindegaard and Maynard scrambled it home at the back post.
The goal lifted the Dons and they were by far the better side, possibility could have had a penalty but were denied by Lindergaard who redeemed himself with a fine save at the back post. At long last North End realised they had a game on and with seven minutes to go were finally handed a lifeline when Doyle got behind the Dons defence and was brought down by keeper Cropper, he was last man and was given a red, having usd all three substitutes an outfield player had to go in goal, eventually it was decided Alex Revell would be the lucky man. The penalty was struck well but every credit to the big striker saved it really well.
North End piled forward Doyle could not quite reach a cross, then Robinson blazed over an empty goal. However the best chance to win it came at the other end, Murphy looking offside got through but dragged his shot wide of the far post, it would have given the Dons a deserved victory but the miss took them closer to the drop.
Credit to the visitors they play good passing football and a personal view if Grayson departs North End, Karl Robinson could do a really good job for us.

One of those bizarre incidents with the penalty for you today. Will be a PNE or MKD trivia questions in years to come!!

You can rest in the knowledge that you have had a very good first season back in the Championship and that they are going straight back down!!

Luckily SCO this season performances like that have been rare, Grayson apparently gave a paint stripping assessment at the end of the game to the players suspect a few changes at Brum on Tuesday, should with a bit of luck finish in the top half this season which is more than anyone can ask for.
