Is second place acceptable? - Stairs - 11-09-2014 Despite all the money spent it seems that a winning team can't be guaranteed and Man City are still just as vulnerable as any other. It certainly makes for an exciting Premiership but are Man City fans now so spoilt that second place will be considered a failure? RE: Is second place acceptable? - St Charles Owl - 11-09-2014 Man city fans, just like Chelsea fans before them, need to remember where they were before they were lucky enough to get a sugar daddy!! Both were well supported but ultimately teams that had not had any success for a long time and spent time moving between the top three divisions!! Of course they will conveniently forget this!! As for the question, in reality 2nd place would be a good achievement but they will see it as a disappointment. Of course they could just become like Arsenal and not aspire to win the league but just make the top 4 and get into the Champions League! RE: Is second place acceptable? - WakeyTerrier - 11-09-2014 At the top of the English game it doesn't really matter that much anymore except for the fans to have bragging rights over other clubs supporters. Top flight football is all about money these days. City won the League and earned £96.5million from TV and Prize money payments Where as Liverpool came second and topped that figure taking home £97.5million Just as a quick break down for the stupid money paid out in the EPL Every club is guaranteed a minimum of £750k per live game with a minimum of £7.5million(equivalent to 10 live games) per season even if they don't fill that quota. Each place in the Prem is worth £1.2million in prize money, City earned £24.7million for winning the league, Cardiff who finished bottom £1.2m Every club earns the following central payments Domestic TV £21.6m overseas TV £26.2m central commercial £4.2m It's all about the money! RE: Is second place acceptable? - turkeydinner - 21-09-2014 I think fining under FFP dosent make sense point deduction etc makes much more I think losing Negredo on loan is a big blow they had four very different strikers last year who gave them terrific options and they dont have that now 32M for France`s fourth choice centre back? They are a slick and well drilled side no doubt but I dont see that theyve strengthened on last year any despite the incomings and think Chelsea look far stronger, a lot of it depends on how well the likes of man Utd, Arsenal, Liverpool do I said 3rd at the start of the season and i`ll stick with that RE: Is second place acceptable? - JackM - 26-09-2014 As a lifetime Man City supporter who has seen the good and bad times, all I want is for them to play good attacking football, and to give me more good than bad weekends. Anything more is a bonus. What has happened at City is a dream come true, and I didn't have to change my club to taste a bit of glory. RE: Is second place acceptable? - Stairs - 29-09-2014 What interests me is the fact that all the clubs that have benefited from 'big money' are still vunerabke and can still be beaten by any club in the league. Maybe not so frequently, but it's still there. RE: Is second place acceptable? - turkeydinner - 01-10-2014 Ive never hated Citeh despite being a lifelong fan of the other team, mostly I`d thought how unlucky they were to not do better given the managers and players that have passed through, I also greatly admired their acadmy of bringing some very good players through the system I did lose a huge amount of respect for them though when they were allowed to make an emergency loan and bring in an international goalkeeper as the fourth choice who was Faroese wasnt deemed good enough, tough! If you havent enough players you dip into the youth squad and give them the game of their life, if your going to sign foreign players and just have them to make up the numbers then something should be done about it-I lost a lot of respect for them after that. |
