Robert Hoy (10 January 1950 – January 2024) was an English professional footballer who made 273 appearances and scored 38 goals in the Football League playing as a midfielder for Huddersfield Town, Halifax Town, Blackburn Rovers, York City and Rochdale. He went on to play non-league football for Macclesfield Town.[1] On 3 January 2024, it was announced that Hoy had died at the age of 73.[2]

Another great of the game gone and another gentleman of the game on the world stage. It wasn't any fun watching his German national team pick us (and others) apart in the 70's and beyond, or his Bayern Munich teams pick apart English club sides in Europe, but you doff your cap to those you recognise as amongst the best at their job ever, regardless of where they are from.
