Still a gas - themaclad - 03-06-2022 Bristol Rovers defender Trevor Clarke has signed a new deal with the newly-promoted side to keep him with the Gas for another two years. The 24-year-old joined the club on a one-year deal in 2021 following his departure from Rotherham United. He had an injury-hit season, making just nine appearances, but re-signs with the option of a further year. "It was tough last year with injuries. But I'm fully fit and can't wait to get the new season started," he said. RE: Still a gas - themaclad - 15-06-2022 Antony Evans has signed a new contract with promoted Bristol Rovers to stay with the club until 2025. Evans, 23, joined Rovers on 31 August last year and was a key component in the team that won promotion to League One. The attacking midfielder scored 11 goals and contributed 14 assists in 39 appearances for the club. He scored twice in Rovers' 7-0 victory over Scunthorpe United which secured promotion. RE: Still a gas - themaclad - 29-07-2022 Bristol Rovers striker Aaron Collins has signed a two-year extension to stay with the club until 2025. The 25-year-old returned to Bristol Rovers last summer having been part of the club's academy. He scored 18 goals for Rovers, making him their top scorer, including two in the 7-0 win over Scunthorpe that saw the club promoted to League One. In a recent interview with BBC Bristol he said he was setting his goal target "high" this upcoming season. "I love it here and last year was special in so many ways. I'm looking forward to even more good times and, if the next three years are anything like the last one, then I can't wait," Collins said. "There's lots more goals in my locker and it's an honour to represent the blue-and-white quarters." Collins' previous clubs include Newport County, Morecambe and Forest Green Rovers, and he also went on loan to Notts County, Tranmere Rovers, Maidstone and Colchester United during a three-year spell with Wolves. Bristol Rovers manager Joey Barton added: "Aaron was superb last season and was a huge contributing factor to our success. "He was asked to play in a position that was unfamiliar to him and he led the line tirelessly. As a club, we need to make sure we tie our assets down to long-term deals." RE: Still a gas - themaclad - 07-08-2022 Bristol Rovers have signed former Brentford defender Lewis Gordon. The 21-year-old former Scotland youth international has agreed a two-year deal at the League One club. The ex-Watford academy player's only first-team appearance came in a third-round FA Cup win over Middlesbrough in January. "Lewis made an immediate impression on the group after coming in on trial," Bristol Rovers manager Joey Barton told the club website. "I'm delighted to agree a deal and look forward to working with him. He has lots of potential and I'm sure the Gasheads will give him a warm welcome." RE: Still a gas - themaclad - 12-08-2022 Bristol Rovers have signed Lewis Gibson on a season-long loan from Premier League side Everton. The 22-year-old centre-back began his career in Newcastle United's academy before joining the Toffees in 2017. He captained their under-23 side when he was only 17, but has not made a first-team appearance for the club. Gibson has been on loan at Fleetwood, Reading and Sheffield Wednesday, but injury meant he played only six times for the Owls last season. "He's a left-footed, left-sided defender, he's part of the group at Fleetwood that went on a great run and almost got promoted out of this division (League One)," Bristol Rovers manager Joey Barton told BBC Radio Bristol. "He brings real quality and the key for us is building him back up after a little bit of a tricky loan at Reading. I think he's had a few knocks and niggles last season. But he looks fit and strong. "We'll have to make sure we ease him back into the blood and thunder of competitive games. For us a really good addition, somebody who's got Championship experience." RE: Still a gas - themaclad - 24-08-2022 Ex-loanee Luke McCormick returns to Rovers on permanent deal Luke McCormick scored six goals for Rovers during a loan spell in 2020-21 Bristol Rovers have signed former midfielder Luke McCormick for an undisclosed fee from AFC Wimbledon. The 23-year-old spent the 2020-21 campaign on loan at the Memorial Stadium, while he was a Chelsea player, before joining Wimbledon last summer. "I'm delighted to be able to bring him back to Rovers permanently," said manager Joey Barton. "We are keen to sign good people and good players and he is both. He will be a superb addition to our group." McCormick, who came through Chelsea's youth academy, scored six goals in 42 games during his loan spell at Rovers. "It feels amazing. I'm delighted to be back," he told the club website. after signing a three-year deal. "My time here was personally a brilliant one that ended in disaster. Obviously not being able to play in front of the fans and then being relegated. "To be back during the spot the club is in and where the gaffer, his staff and the players have put the club in is immense and I'm excited to be a part of that, and really kick on and show the love back to the fans." 'Rovers will be absolutely delighted' Analysis - BBC Radio Bristol commentator Richard Hoskin The arrival of Luke McCormick is probably Bristol Rovers' most eye-catching signing of the summer so far. In a truly forgettable campaign when they were relegated in the 2020-21 season, he was one of Rovers' few bright sparks, and made a positive impression on both the supporters and Joey Barton. Over the past couple of weeks it seemed the transfer might not happen, so the Rovers manager will be absolutely delighted to get the deal over the line. With the departure of Luke Thomas, Elliot Anderson and Sam Nicholson pre-season, he's a key signing for Bristol Rovers. Don't be surprised to see more new arrivals before the transfer window shuts at the end of the month. RE: Still a gas - themaclad - 02-09-2022 Bristol Rovers have signed winger Sylvester Jasper, striker Josh Coburn and centre-back Bobby Thomas all on loan until the end of the season. Jasper, 20 joins from Premier League side Fulham where he has been part of their academy since 2012. He made his first-team debut in the FA Cup against Manchester City in 2020. The winger has spent time on loan at Colchester United in League Two and Hibernian last season. "It's no secret we've been in the market for wide players and Syl fits the profile of what we've been looking for," Bristol Rovers manager Joey Barton said. "He's a young, hungry, dynamic winger and I hope he will excite our fans with his style of play." Teenage forward Coburn signs from Championship side Middlesbrough where he has played since September 2019. The 19-year-old has made 27 appearances for Boro and scored six goals. Defender Thomas, 21, joined Burnley's academy in 2017 and made his first-team debut in the EFL Cup in 2020. He joined League Two side Barrow on loan in January 2021 and featured 22 times before the end of the season. "We are delighted to add Josh to the group and are confident he will add a different dimension to our attacking options," Barton continued. "Bobby is an impressive young centre-half who will benefit hugely from coming out of Burnley and playing League One football. We are grateful to Burnley for allowing us to take him on loan and we look forward to having him as part of our group". Signings add 'more depth to squad' Analysis - BBC Radio Bristol's Rovers commentator Ed Hadwin Rovers boss Joey Barton has been vocal about his need for more depth in his squad, with today's signings going some way towards getting him the six new faces he wanted a couple of weeks ago. Some of the team's best performers in last season's promotion campaign were only at Rovers on loan, and some of them haven't really been replaced - until now. Bobby Thomas is a welcome addition in a defence depleted by injuries, while Josh Coburn (when he's back fit) and Sylvester Jasper give him options in the attacking third. "That might not be the end of it as far as Rovers are concerned tonight, as Barton would love at least one more new signing before the window closes. RE: Still a gas - themaclad - 19-10-2022 Winger Scott Sinclair has signed a short-term deal with Bristol Rovers where his career began. The 33-year-old was a free agent after his contract with Championship side Preston North End came to an end in May. He made 78 appearances and scored 12 goals for the Lilywhites in two seasons. Sinclair started his professional career with Rovers in 2004 before joining Premier League club Chelsea. "We are delighted to have brought Scott into the group," Rovers manager Joey Barton told the club website. "He has been training with us for a couple of weeks now. We're enjoying having him in with us. He's a fit lad, his experience and quality is superb and he will strengthen us further as we move into these winter months." Sinclair, who has signed until January 2023, could feature in Rovers' League One match against Plymouth Argyle on Saturday. Over 18 years the winger has had most success during stints with Swansea in the Championship and Premier League, and with Celtic in the Scottish Premiership. He joined Rovers' Centre of Excellence as an eight-year-old before progressing to the senior squad. "I'm delighted to be back at the place where my career began," Sinclair said. RE: Still a gas - themaclad - 17-01-2023 Winger Scott Sinclair has signed a new 18-month contract with Bristol Rovers. The 33-year-old began his career with Rovers and initially re-joined them on a three-month deal in October. Sinclair, whose previous clubs include Chelsea, Manchester City, Swansea, Celtic and Preston, has played 16 games since moving to the League One club. "It's a club that means a huge amount to me, having started my footballing journey in the blue-and-white quarters," Sinclair told the club site. "I hope the fans can see how much I want to be here and I look forward to making more memories at this great football club." RE: Still a gas - themaclad - 19-01-2023 Bristol Rovers have signed Brentford goalkeeper Ellery Balcombe on loan until the end of the season. The 23-year-old spent the first half of the campaign on loan at Crawley Town, making a total of 12 appearances for the League Two outfit. He is yet to make his senior debut for the Premier League Bees. "He's a good, athletic all-round keeper that I've watched grow over a period of time," Rovers head of goalkeeping David Coles told club website. "He's a modern goalkeeper with old-fashioned values of goalkeeping." |
