Absolutely agree.  The thing about pitching is it puts virtually all the strain on two parts of the body, the elbow and  the shoulder.  The rest of the body is used purely to create extra thrust on the pitch.  In cricket the toll is spread more evenly across the whole body.  This shows itself when you look at injuries they both suffer, in baseball pitchers get injuries to the elbow or shoulder mainly, but bowlers in cricket get injuries all over the place from hamstrings to groin to shoulder.

Both actions are strenuous and harm the body in some way, but the actions are very different in how they generate the speed of delivery.

There is a feeling up here though that Americans look down on Canadians. Harold Reynolds the sports announcer caused a furor when he said that Toronto fans wouldn't be able to catch baseballs in the stand "because they don't play baseball much up there." Even made the national newscast. Laugh

Tell that to Rusell Martin, Brett Lawrie, Eric Gagne, Larry Walker or the great Fergie Jenkins!!! Laugh

To be fair and speaking as an outsider to a degree, Canadians have always had an inferiority complex when it comes to the US, and the Americans certainly know how to press the right buttons to get that complex to rise to the surface!!!!

He's been in great form since coming back from injury late in the season. Last 2 games Jays have played well like they have in last half of season. But then you have that guy Odor. Doh

Whoever wins, good luck to them. I'm just happy that we're in postseason play after 22 years absence. Thumb up

I was very surprised when Gibbons brought in Price when you were winning 7-1, therefore ruling him out of this game!!  Sure he may be able to pitch and inning or two at best but I would have thought he would trust the bullpen to finish that game and save Price for this one!!  Stroman has been in good form but he has not been consistent prior to his injury.  This game though will be won by the bats I think.

Crazy game in Toronto!! Now in the top of the 8th and Bautista has just hit a three run homer to give the Blue Jays the lead in the bottom of the 7th.

RE: Thread For Anything But Football - St Charles Owl - 15-10-2015

Blue Jays finally prevail 6-3, Kansas leading in other game 3-2 in the 5th.

Laugh Keep explaining the game to consilio and he'll see what a great sport it is. Thurny meanwhile will continue to call it rounders because he's a young lad and his mind isn't as developed. Laugh

Well done cubs.

Well Toronto prevailed last night 6-3 and won the series 3-2 and advance to ALCS to play the Kansas City Royals.

3 errors in a row in the 7th inning cost us dear, instead of 3 straight outs, my lot forgot how to field and sure enough Toronto score 4 runs and win the game.

Congrats to Pei and his Blue Jays Thumb up Thumb up Thumb up

RE: Thread For Anything But Football - peiowl - 15-10-2015

Thanks, Kev. Your team played well first 2 games when we were not playing well. They were also in it last night until the 7th. I'm only glad that the final outcome of last night's game didn't rest on that controversial  call in the top of the 7th when Odor (that guy again!) stole home after the home plate umpire had called the ball dead. Technically, I gather that it was correct to allow the run to stand but it would not have been a good way to end the series. Whistle

Now, to SCO and that unfortunate and blatantly incorrect comment: "Canadians have always had an inferiority complex when it comes to the US, and the Americans certainly know how to press the right buttons to get that complex to rise to the surface!!!!" Doh

I can't afford to take this seriously. So, I'll treat it as a joke. Canadians for the record have no need to feel inferior when it comes to comparisons to the US. We are very proud of the culture we have, which is VERY different from that in the US and best to leave those differences unsaid. Whistle

What amuses Canadians is the level of ignorance shown by people in the US about who Canadians are, where we live and what we do. It's like one tweeter posted (this one made the national news as a smiling newscaster read it out): "I guess folk in US think we don't get out of our #igloos often enough to play baseball. Too busy throwing snowballs." Laugh

A well known Canadian comedian Rick Mercer used to run a show "Talking to Americans." Here's a clip from an episode. HILARIOUS!

So, when Reynolds made that baseball-catching comment, he might as well have been in Rick Mercer's footage. Laugh

RE: Thread For Anything But Football - St Charles Owl - 15-10-2015

Americans show ignorance of who anyone is, not just those of you in the 51st State!!!  And global warning must be playing havoc with the roof on that igloo of yours!! Whistle  Still as you say in your language "C'est la vie". Tongue

RE: Thread For Anything But Football - peiowl - 16-10-2015

Speaking of Americans, I'll be joining you lot weekend after upcoming one. My wife and I will be staying with friends (Canadians who prefer to live in the US Huh ) in Palm Springs. Thumb up

And yes, as a Canadian, I know my geography. It's in California, not far from UCal Riverside. Whistle

I turned down a job offer there in 1971 and took up a position in Newfoundland instead. But, that's another story. Whistle

RE: Thread For Anything But Football - St Charles Owl - 18-10-2015

Not going well for the Blue Jays!! 2-0 down in the series and a lot of momentum with the Royals!!

Mets lead the Cubs 1-0, game 2 this afternoon, let's hope the Cubbies can grab one of these first two games in New York!
