RE: 2016 (22nd August) - WBA Summer Transfer Window - Worldclassalbion - 22-08-2016

For all his lack of movement, Lambert did more in 3 minutes than Berahino did all game.

I agree that we also need a RB to replace Dawson. I'd still like Pulis to try Gamboa on the right wing though as he has pace to burn.

I like the look of Galloway so a few more decent signings would be most welcome Thumb up

I'm not sure what Craig Dawson has to do to get some recognition. In an otherwise pretty much wretched last season, I genuinely thought he was one of the stand out performers, agreed against not much competition. He's playing in a position that is not his natural one, having been signed as a central defender, and I think has adapted really well to the point where I believe he's made the right back position his own. I also feel we have far more pressing issues than a new right back, starting with putting some desperately needed creativity into midfield and getting some more firepower up front. I honestly don't think right back is an issue

Maybe that's what Pulis has in mind - if he has one that can move past a brick wall idea.

I would like to see Lambert given a go, surely he can't continue to be average can he with his pedigree, and lets give our younger guys a go. Can't be any worse can it?

Baggiesteve. The only problem with Dawson is a lack of pace. He gets skinned most weeks in a one on one situation. These days the Premier league is all about pace, that's why Leicester won the league. Skill and pace all over the pitch. I like Dawson but I'd have him at CB when GMac gets injured and i'd get rid of Olsson. That's if we could get a pacey RB of course.

At the risk of hijacking the transfer thread, our lack of pace at the back is chronic, and the reason why we have to play so deep and consequently almost invite constant pressure. A younger, faster and more athletic back line can mean that the whole team can press forward and pressurise the opposition, without the fear of being unable to cope with them breaking at pace.
(Gamboa must be such a crap trainer!)

RE: 2016 (22nd August) - WBA Summer Transfer Window - WBA-Josh - 23-08-2016

NEW RB - DAWSON - EVANS - GALLOWAY (OR NEW LB IF NEXT SEASON)

The above should, in my opinion, be the long term plan for our defence. It hasn't got to be right away, it hasn't even got to be this season but eventually our defence's average age needs to be decreased so we can play higher up the pitch.

Hi Worldclass, I do agree with you regarding Dawson's lack of pace; he probably has the pace of a centre back unsurprisingly. I think all of us thought that, when we signed Gamboa, we had got a high quality, speedy and attacking full back. Probably like most fans, I'm wondering what went wrong. Like you, I'd be very happy to see Dawson move into the centre, although that does not seem to be part of Pulis' master plan. In the absence of that, I'd be happy to see him continue at full back if it means Pulis focuses getting some creativity into the midfield. I'm not sure where Dawson came in the Albion goal scoring list last season but it's probably an indictment that he likely came in the top three or four, probably all from set pieces. It would be good if we created something different this season.

Well, as long as that doesn't mean "breaking the record for the fewest ever number of transfers" Rolleyes

Seems my thoughts of playing the youngsters and Lambert are what Pulis is doing. Didn't know this site had so much clout. I should be an advisor, can't do any harm - can't do any harm can it?
