In my day we played 235. Agree about FB. We should have enough now surely We must be losing Buxton and/or Mattock this summer Bus, only time will tell if he fits in well but we're making steps in the right direction by getting this type of striker in early. It is very positive but there's still work to be done. If we're wanting play offs this season then we need some loanees in, if not then we'll need another 4/5 in the summer as we've got around 10 players out of contract (03-02-2015, 15:59)peiowl Wrote: And imre I've put a posting up that is specially for you on the fa cup thread. The FA cup post is neither provocative nor wrongly placed so he shouldn't care HALLELUJAH SG KNOWS WHAT WE NEED Dom Howson @domhowson 6 mins6 minutes ago Owls didn't get all the players they wanted yesterday. Gray has told me they were thwarted in their attempts to sign a new winger. #SWFC Dom Howson @domhowson 5 mins 5 minutes ago SG told me: "We tried to get a wide player in; we thought we had got him over the line but he decided to stay at his parent club." #SWFC Dom Howson @domhowson 5 mins 5 minutes ago Stuart Gray added: "There’s a possibility that (new winger) could happen when the emergency loan window reopens.” Opens on Monday. #SWFC RE: 2014-15 Second Half & January Transfer Window - St Charles Owl - 03-02-2015 Whether these 4 players turn out to be stars or not is completely overshadowed by the fact that we now have an owner that is prepared to put some money out there and try to improve things, rather than make do with what we have. Now we only spent probably less than a million pounds yesterday, but that is a quantum leap compared to what we have done for the last 10 years!! Towinjustonce is right though, we need to score goals if there is going to be any late push for the play offs. Maybe Bus can fit right in and maybe we will find that he brings more out of one of our other strikers as well. For me McGugan/Maghoma/Maguire/Baker also need to be getting into the box more and chipping in with goals. McGugan and Baker for me are more likely to do this than the others from what we have seen. It is going to be a new era at S6, we can shed the crap we have been carry to fill the squad and we can now upgrade the whole squad. Finishing this season strong, even if we don't make the playoffs is key, as this will put us on the radar of players we want as a team who is going places, its been a while since we have truly been able to say that!!! RE: 2014-15 Second Half & January Transfer Window - Owlkev71 - 03-02-2015 A lot of unknowns with all those foreign players signing. Will Baker get left out, with McGugan arriving? Will Melo replace Seme? Are Buxton & Palmers days numbered with Vermijl coming? Madine will surely leave now, hopefully with Nuhiu in the summer. RE: 2014-15 Second Half & January Transfer Window - St Charles Owl - 03-02-2015 Personally I would bring Madine back and play him. We essentially have 4 main strikers if we do that, May, Nuhiu, Bus and Madine, all of them are sufficiently different that you can perm any 2 from the 4, but who knows which partnership would work best?? Maybe adding Bus will bring the best out of one of the others, I still think that could be May, but SG needs to play them to work that out. Madine seem to play best and scored most of his goals when Ben 10 was playing and the understanding they built up at Carlisle. We really need a good winger who can put in decent crosses and we should do much better at scoring from corners. In the wilkinson days every dead ball opportunity was a decent chance of a goal. RE: 2014-15 Second Half & January Transfer Window - madsteve - 03-02-2015 Our goals per game just about halved the day we sold Antonio. The sooner we accept that then we are part way to finding the solution. Sure Forest would sell him back to us for £5m. RE: 2014-15 Second Half & January Transfer Window - peiowl - 03-02-2015 If you want to keep up with the game just go on the f.a. cup thread imre. I think SG hoped that Maguire would continue improving after the finish to last season and Mags/Helan would provide options down the other wing. In reality we sacrificed Antonio to get in May, that hasn't worked to well either, but hopefully we can get someone in when the loan window opens!! Set pieces for me are a different story, I am hoping that one of the new guys has some ability in this department because Maguire's have been awful for most of the season!! We used to be such a threat from set pieces, with a combination of good delivery and big men in the box, we need to get back to that. Maguire's form faded from last March but scoring a number of penalties masked this. It is amazing that a Manager thinks it is a good idea to fund the purchase of a striker by selling the player who creates the most goals. |
