Indeed, Lavery has already joined Madine and Corry out on loan and I'd expect a few more to follow. Perhaps we could sell McCabe to Newcastle who could then loan him back to Rangers It may be we are looking to do more in the loan market, when it opens, regarding wingers who knows I do expect a flurry of activity when it does As for the signings, it could be that we are trying to copy the Southampton model of a few seasons ago buy them cheap and young, sell them on for big bucks and have more to invest whilst not breaking FFP rules RE: 2014-15 Second Half & January Transfer Window - madsteve - 03-02-2015 (03-02-2015, 13:35)Maddix Wrote:(03-02-2015, 11:22)madsteve Wrote: Keepers: Westwood, Kirkland, (Wildsmith, Dawson) SG said yesterday that we would be less dependent on loan signings now and that loan signings would be for players that we are looking to ultimately sign, like McGugan. RE: 2014-15 Second Half & January Transfer Window - Maddix - 03-02-2015 That's what I was meaning MS It may be that we are looking towards bringing a few marquee players on loan with a view to a permanent contract if, God forbid, we actually did it this year. If/when we don't get promoted this season we can send them back and bring in even better players in the Summer and make a real go for it next season without being lumbered with players we don't want. It looks to me that we are trying a belt and braces shot at the play-offs this year and if the P word happens it happens RE: 2014-15 Second Half & January Transfer Window - madsteve - 03-02-2015 (03-02-2015, 13:56)Maddix Wrote: That's what I was meaning MS It may be that we are looking towards bringing a few marquee players on loan with a view to a permanent contract if, God forbid, we actually did it this year. I cannot see much justification for expecting too much this season as the players will need time to settle in. We may have just signed the new Blondeau, Pechnik & De Bilde. RE: 2014-15 Second Half & January Transfer Window - Owlkev71 - 03-02-2015 Well, an interesting deadline day, didn't think we would bring that many in. The next couple of seasons look like being exciting ones for OWLS fans. Even with SG in charge MS?? The new owners will demand at least a serious tilt at automatic promotion. If they don't think SG can deliver that then they will replace him. RE: 2014-15 Second Half & January Transfer Window - Thurnscoe_OWL - 03-02-2015 I am not moaning about signing 4 players who could be better than what we have but we are probably going to keep playing a straight forward 442 in which case Maguire and Maghoma are going to be shoe-horned in to play on the wing and they are both clearly not good enough. Thats why I'm moaning and it's one of the things I've moaned about all season. I'd go 352 to utilise the players we have (but we wont so we'll be disjointed until the summer(and we cant yet because Loovens is suspended)): Westwood Lees Loovens Dielna Palmer Helan Lee Semedo McGugan Nuhiu?? Bus?? RE: 2014-15 Second Half & January Transfer Window - peiowl - 03-02-2015 I don't know about all these permutations, numbering systems, because you have to understand I'm an old guy. In my day we played 235. It does seem we have a surfeit of full backs. The only signing that worries me a bit is the Romanian guy. The others play in decent leagues. But, it looks positive all around to me. And imre I've put a posting up that is specially for you on the fa cup thread. RE: 2014-15 Second Half & January Transfer Window - Statesideowl - 03-02-2015 It all sounds pretty positive really, we can slowly push the dead wood out and replace them with ambitious footballers. These owners are in it to succeed, not just to simply operate as we have been doing. As mentioned above, I'd expect to see an exodus depart S6 at the end of this campaign. It's time to have a proper clean out. As perplexing as the RB signing is I feel it definitely has the future in mind. The arrival of the two in midfield leaves me hoping that Maguire will now keep his mate McCabe company on the bench. We're already taking shape, I didn't expect so many immediate signings, MM wasn't joking when he said these guys are "aggressive financially" They obviously know that if you have a window of opportunity, even if it's an outside shot. It's worth the gamble, especially when you're talking promotion. Proper buzzing start to the new year for all of us!!! RE: 2014-15 Second Half & January Transfer Window - Towinjustonce - 03-02-2015 If these signings were made with a strategic plan for the future in mind then great !! It's just hard to see at the minute. It possible does mean the end of Buxton and Semedo thou. Currently the only one who can make a difference to a promotion charge is Bus. You don't get promoted by scoring fook all and that's what we are doing and it's hard to see how it will change. We just seem to have a load of players and it still looks like square pegs in round holes. I know it just doesn't work over night but defensive midfield and defence has not been an issue all season. I am happy with the signings just don't see how they will work this season yet and the attack is still left without creativity. Anyway bring on the good times !! |
