RE: WBA Summer 2015 Transfer Window - Stairs - 21-07-2015

Lambert replaces Anichebe or Samaras for me and because of that he is very welcome. He does not get as injured and he puts a shift in. He will work very well with both Berahino and Ideye (assuming they are still here).

A very good move.

Do we really need another 30+ year old whose goals have seemingly dried up.

Surely this is just paper talk and if other clubs are interested in him then, good luck to them....after you!

To be fair, his goal tally at Liverpool was low because he was in and out (mainly out!) of the team all the time he's been there.
I've always rated him and think he's the type of player that WILL score goals if played. OK his age may be against him  (33?) but I still reckon he's got a couple of seasons left in him; also that Saido would benefit hugely by playing - and even training - alongside him.
Hope we get him  Thumb up

OOooerrr - just seen he played 36 times for Liverpool last year! Still think he'd do a good job for us tho!

Would not mind Lambert but I am getting a bit concerned about our average age.

Gareth McAuley 35, Joleon Lescott 32, Ben Foster 32, Jonas Olsson 32, Boaz Myhill 32, Darren Fletcher 31, Stephane Sessegnon 31 Chris Brunt 30, James Morrison 29, Craig Gardner 28 and Claudio Yacob 28.

Fulham always seemed to be in a similar position to us they had an aging squad and always seemed to be wanting 5-6 players each summer eventually it caught up with them. I wish we could get to the stage where we could concentrate on signing 2-3 quality players during the summer rather than always chasing have a team

That's what seasons upon seasons of taking the cheap option has led to. The last 3 summers I have mentioned this problem and now its at a stage where its only a matter of time until we "do a Fulham" because it has caught up with us. Olsson should have been replaced last season, McAuley should probably have been let go this summer but we took the cheap option to renew like we did with Steven Reid.

All that said I would take Lambert as a replacement for Anichebe in an instant. Would complement Saido very well and unlike Anichebe he will be fit for more than a quarter of the season.

This window has got to a stage where we can't even worry about age, we need bodies in ASAP and tbh its getting to the stage where the likes of Carlton Cole will be seriously considered due to our seeming inability to pay the going rate or even attract players to the club.

Agree with Lambert replacing Anichebe (or just Lambert in the squad)

He's 30 (ish) still got a year or 2 in him. He is exactly the Pulis Type player (good in the air, can bully defences, English, will probably put a decent shift in, and has a decent eye for goal) Should work well with Ideye and Berahino too. He should be willing to drop down in wages, and would only cost us a few million max, so I see him coming in definitely.

Berahino / Ideye / Lambert is alright to be fair. With Nabi on the fringes to give us a different dimension.

I'm not getting up my hopes of signing Adrian Ramos but having watched the types of goals he scores he'd be perfect along side Saido
Good finisher & Great in the air (check out the Video if you get 5 mins)

You're just teasing me.

I stay very chilled most of the summer because I know we do our dealings behind closed doors and have to be realistic about where we are in the pecking order e.g. we don't pay over the odds and so always watch others splash the cash in a high risk manner.

Also I don't get too concerned about 'fitting into the squad'. A footballers fitness level will be very good assuming he is in a squad somewhere and was not released at the end of the season and has had a summer of excesses. Club tactics might play a part in getting 'up to speed' - but basically it's; block it and get it out of the danger zone and over 'ere on me head - stuff!

That said, with a few weeks to go until the season starts, I am now getting a little anxious. I think we will get Lambert and Hennessey very soon and then its a case of who else we unearth in the next few weeks.

Keeping the faith, as ever  Cool

...still can't for the life of me understand why we're after a 3rd keeper, unless either Fozzie or Boaz are off. Fozzie is obviously a top class act, Boaz just ain't too far behind that if at all, and is also extremely patient. What more could we wish for in that department??  Huh

It's cos Foster is injured so we want back up/competition for Myhill until Foster is back.
