Longelo joined Accrington from Newcastle United in 2022, going on to play 82 games for the club, and had been offered a new deal to stay with Stanley. However, the 24-year-old, who began his career in West Ham's academy, said it was "impossible" to resist a switch to Swindon. The 27-year-old centre-back joined the Welsh side in July 2023, making 41 appearances and wearing the captain's armband during the last campaign. The former Republic of Ireland Under-21 international began his career in his home country with Wexford and has had spells at Rochdale, Morecambe, Bolton and Scunthorpe previously. The 27-year-old was a virtual ever-present in the Crawley side that won the League Two play-off final last season He moved to the Red Devils from Gillingham a year ago and scored four goals in 54 appearances. "There was a lot of competition for Wills' signature and we are thrilled that he is joining us for the 2024-25 season," Swindon's head of football Jamie Russell told the club website. RE: Swindon News - themaclad - 28-06-2024 Former Sutton United forward and free agent Harry Smith has joined Swindon Town on a permanent deal. Smith returns to the County Ground after previously playing there on loan from Millwall in 2017. The 29-year-old made 42 appearances for Sutton United last term, scoring 14 goals across all competitions in the season they were relegated back to the National League. "I'm really happy," Smith told the club, external upon signing. "As soon as I spoke to the manager [Mark Kennedy] I knew it was somewhere I wanted to be playing my football this season. "I'm coming back a much different person and a much-improved player." Swindon have not disclosed the length of Smith's contract. The 20-year-old academy product has extended his stay at his hometown club until 2027. After making his debut in 2021, Minturn has played 40 times across all competitions. "It’s every football fan's dream to play for their club," he told the club website, external. "And I want to be part of getting the club back to where it belongs." Three other young players have also signed their first professional contracts with the club. Midfielders Jaxon Brown and Sonny Hart, and academy goalkeeper Redman Evans have all agreed their first deals. RE: Swindon News - themaclad - 11-07-2024 Swindon Town have signed defender Grant Hall and teenage midfielder Dylan Mitchell on permanent deals. Hall previously played for the Robins during a loan spell from Tottenham Hotspur during the 2013-14 season. The 32-year-old most recently played for Rotherham United after a spell at Middlesbrough and made almost 200 appearances for QPR over five seasons. "I'm glad to get it over the line, after leaving Rotherham, I wanted to get something sorted as soon as possible so I could get in for pre-season and set the foundation for the start of the season," Hall said. He becomes Swindon's eighth signing following the addition of Mitchell, who was released by Aston Villa. Mitchell, 18, did not make a first-team appearance for the Premier League club, but he provided two assists in 18 matches for Villa's under-18's last season and also spent time on loan at non-league side Alvechurch. "We are delighted that Dylan has joined us at Swindon Town following stiff competition from other teams in the league," head of football Jamie Russell told the Swindon Town website. "He has had an exceptional footballing education with Aston Villa and has already started to achieve success within men's first-team football, this is shown by an outstanding loan period with Alvechurch. "After a spell with the club on trial we think he has a bright future in the game and someone we can work with develop both as a person and as a player." Swindon have also confirmed the departure of Williams Kokolo, who has left by mutual consent. The defender made 28 appearances after joining in November 2023. "Williams is a player we were keen to work with for the upcoming season, but unfortunately due to family reasons, he departs the club with our best wishes as he will return to France to be with his family," Russell said. The 20-year-old, a left-sided defender who can also play in central defence, moved to Bramall Lane in 2021 but has yet to make his first-team bow. Freckleton made 16 appearances in Chesterfield's title-winning season in the National League last season while on loan, and has also had loan spells with Yeovil Town and Wealdstone. "Already in his professional career he has shown great maturity in playing a variety of defensive positions during his loan spells, particularly last year at Chesterfield," said Swindon's head of football Jamie Russell. "He has also played almost 50 times in the National League and cup competitions, coupled with earning promotion last season, and we believe the move suits us. "He has a lot of attributes to work in our system and we also feel he is now ready for the step up into the EFL." The 19-year-old signed a three-year deal with the Swans until 2026 last year and made his only first-team appearance for the club in the Carabao Cup in August 2022. The Wales Under-21 international spent part of last season on loan with Stockport County, scoring one goal in 12 games. Cotterill, a central midfielder, has been with Swansea since the age of seven. He becomes Swindon's ninth summer signing since Mark Kennedy took over as head coach in May. The 28-year-old made more than 100 appearances for the Spireites across three seasons, scoring 13 goals, after joining them from FC Halifax Town in 2021. King, who played 19 league games last term as Chesterfield cruised to the National League title, has spent the majority of his career in non-league football. "I feel like I've got a bit more to give, I've worked really hard to get to where I am today and I'm really hoping I can do it with Swindon," he told the club website., external Swindon have not disclosed the length of King's contract. He could face a quickfire reunion with his former club as the Robins visit Chesterfield in Friday's League Two opener. The 27-year-old joined Peterborough from Chesterfield last summer but spent last season on loan at Fleetwood Town and then Boreham Wood. His only two starts for Posh have been in the Carabao Cup, with his 10 league appearances coming from the bench. "Kabongo is a powerful, dynamic centre-forward who can play on the shoulder and gives us a threat in behind the opposition's back-line," said Robins head of football Jamie Russell. Swindon have taken two points from their first three games in the new League Two season and will be at home to Notts County on Saturday. |
