I think you are on the right track with that.  Players these days are far fitter than they have ever been and as Imre said more closely resembling athletes.  I would bet they are at their peak of performance most games, and it doesn't take much to push them over the edge and pick up an injury.  I also think these days that virtually no players play through any sort of pain, the slightest niggle and they are in the medical room whereas in the past I bet they carried on playing.  Clubs also invest a lot more money in transfers and wages, so they are far more cautious when it comes to injuries, apart from Carlos of course who put them back in the team as soon as they jumped off the treatment table!!!

Yes, you can't normally see it as its usually covered by players!!!!
