I know a lot of people who voted to leave, and very few used these issues as the main reason. I said at the time, the problem with the EU and the Remain campaign was that they were pretty much unable to give any positive reasons why voters should have voted to remain and they spent an awful amount of air time refuting the claims being made by the other side, which in the end seemed to mean the leave campaigns message stayed at the forefront of peoples minds and the Remain campaigns true message got lost.
What were their reasons then SCO ? The polls showed the reasons I gave as being the main drive behind brexit.
I keep coming back to this,but even if the benefits of staying in the EU were not presented well then the alternative was based on a pack of lies.
Already the pound is down against just about everything,inflation is rising and manufacturers facing higher prices. Remember the UK is primarily a service industry these days and one heavily reliant on imports particularly food.
Rocky times ahead.
I know a few people, educated ones as well, who distinctly felt that we could prosper more economically as a country on our own. I get what you are saying regarding the polls but the polls also predicted a Remain win!! I am not saying anyone is right, I just think the election headlines by the two side and the media surrounded the immigration and NHS issues but I am not convinced that is all people voted on.
As I said earlier, I agree with you that the positives of EU membership were poorly presented and were lost in the war of words over other fairly irrelevant issues, and yes a pack of lies is what was generally given to the masses and the media lapped it up instead of doing their job and analyzing the points and pointing out the lies!! The pound was always going to suffer, not fully convinced the economy in the medium term will necessarily follow suit, but this is uncharted water we are in, so no one really knows.

The media, and particularly the Murdoch empire, have a lot to answer for this astounding Brexit vote but there are many other instances down the years of media 'brainwashing' in this country to suit a certain political slant or unfairly blame some group of people or person for something or other in order to dramatise an event and sell as many newspapers as they possibly can.

Tony Bliar putting in his tuppence worth of opinion on French Radio. However, I do agree if British public opinion significantly changes and is hugely opposed to this Brexit process being initiated, and to the extent where we have Poll Tax style protests /public disorder on the streets, then moves should be made to stop this hijacked vote being implemented - possibly with another snap referendum that I've no doubt will vote to stay within the EU.

They were saying on the radio this morning that British industry has had its best figures for years post Brexit vote. Free from the EU restrictions.
On the other hand, we have a big customer who is reliant on EU money. Not had a peep out of them since.

One thing to note re the British industry figures is the fact that we are still in the EU and a practising EU member. As for Nigel Farage, my view of this triumphal gremlin is unprintable TBF. His latest escapade, on Donald Trump's podium, just sums up what he is and what he represents - a political saboteur of the highest order who has played a big part in damaging our country with crass rhetoric and innuendo that will never be forgotten by millions of people within the British electorate.

Another thing to note is that the boost is basically down to the fall in the pound. As Brexit voters got all the blame for that, perhaps they should get the credit as well.
Of course, for every winner, British exporters, there are losers, including British importers and British tourists going abroad, so let's join in with some more Brexit bashing!
I totally agree re Farage and Trump. As has been said before, they are not idiots, they just say what a lot of idiots want to hear. Depending on your political views, you could add Salmond and Sturgeon to the list.

As Ritchie says, the jump in manufacturing output is almost exclusively as a result of the drop in the Pound since the referendum, it has nothing to do with being free from EU restrictions!! We are still a member of the EU and therefore still bound by the laws of the EU. Nothing will change in the way companies do business until we actually leave the EU, which at the earliest is at least still 2 years away.
As with all these "swings" in economic factors, there will always be winners and losers.
