Carlisle United have signed goalkeeper Jokull Andresson on a season-long loan from fellow League One side Reading.

The 21-year-old has also signed a contract extension with the Royals to run to the end of the 2024-25 season.

Iceland international Andresson is yet to make a senior appearance for his parent club, but has played 55 first-team games while out on loan.

He has had three separate stints with Exeter City, as well as spells with Stevenage and Morecambe.

He will add cover to the Cumbrians' goalkeeper ranks, alongside Tomas Holy and Gabriel Breeze.

Fulham have loaned striker Terry Ablade to Carlisle United on a deal until the end of the 2023-24 League One season.

The 21-year-old forward, who was born in Ghana but grew up in Finland and represented them at youth level, joined the Cottagers in 2018 from FC Jazz.

Ablade has played once for Fulham's first team and also had a loan spell at AFC Wimbledon, featuring in 12 games.

He has been a regular at under-18 and under-21 level for his parent club, who are 13th in the Premier League.

Carlisle have drawn two and lost two of their opening four League One games following promotion.

Last season's top scorer Kristian Dennis left for Tranmere in the summer and Ablade has been signed to add to Carlisle's striking options alongside senior forwards including Sean Maguire and Ryan Edmondson.

Rotherham United have loaned striker Joshua Kayode to League One side Carlisle United on a season-long loan, his third spell at Brunton Park.

The 23-year-old scored 11 goals in 42 games during his initial two spells, the last of which came in 2020-21.

Kayode, a Republic of Ireland under-21 international, has played 38 games for his parent club since progressing through the academy system.

So far this season he has one goal in five Millers' league and cup games.

He has also previously been loaned to Gateshead, Chesterfield and MK Dons.

Carlisle United have agreed a deal to sign Harrogate Town striker Luke Armstrong when the transfer window opens on 1 January.

The clubs said in a joint-statement that the 27-year-old will now start training with his new team-mates.

Armstrong nearly joined Town's League Two rivals Wrexham on transfer deadline day in September but the Welsh side missed the 23:00 BST deadline.

He scored 29 goals in 103 league games for Harrogate.

Carlisle United have signed midfielder Harrison Neal from Premier League side Sheffield United as well as Crystal Palace defender Sean Grehan on loan.

Neal, 22, came through the Blades academy and joins on a deal until the end of the 2025-26 season.

Grehan, 19, is yet to make a senior appearance for the Eagles since joining from Bohemians in 2022.

Meanwhile, Luke Armstrong has officially joined the Cumbrians from Harrogate Town after a deal was agreed.

The 27-year-old links up with Carlisle for an undisclosed fee until the summer of 2027.

Carlisle United have signed Bradford City goalkeeper Harry Lewis for an undisclosed fee on a two-and-a-half-year deal.

The 26-year-old made 86 appearances for the Bantams after joining from Southampton in May 2022.

He could make his debut for Carlisle, who are six points adrift of safety in League One, against Oxford on Saturday.

"We're delighted to have got this over the line," Cumbrians boss Paul Simpson told the club website.

Lewis was ever-present in league and cup for Bradford last season as the Bantams finished sixth in League Two before losing to Carlisle in the play-offs, and has also played a further 31 times this term.

He told their club website: "I have absolutely loved my time here. It is a fantastic football club and will always be the place that gave me the opportunity to show what I can do and live my dream.

"Bradford City has a special place in my heart and I am very grateful to everyone inside the building and, of course, all the supporters for the welcome they gave me."

Carlisle boss Paul Simpson says the first he knew about striker Ryan Edmondson looking to leave the League One club was when he heard he had ended the lease on his flat.

The Cumbrians have terminated the 22-year-old's deal by mutual consent to allow him to join a club in Australia.

He scored seven goals in 52 games.

"This is something that has been going on for a while but I only found out about it when it was quite far down the line," Simpson told the club website.

"I heard that Ryan had ended the lease on his apartment in Carlisle and moved out, which surprised me a little bit.

"After speaking to him, this opportunity has come for him to go over to Australia and he wants to do it. The fact that he's moved out of his apartment tells me his head is already there.

"I'm led to believe he's going to Central Coast Mariners and he's working with a coach who he knows from his time at Leeds."

The Mariners are managed by former Whites youth coach Mark Jackson.

Carlisle United have signed Sunderland winger Jack Diamond on loan until the end of the League One season.

Earlier this month the 24-year-old was cleared of raping and sexually assaulting a woman.

Diamond had a loan spell at Lincoln City last season terminated after he was initially charged in March 2023.

"This is now an opportunity for Jack to move forward in his life after an extremely challenging period," said Carlisle chief Nigel Clibbens.

"We recognise the judicial process has been followed. Having been subject to the law of the land, tried in front of a jury and acquitted, he is now able to move on.

"We want to help him do that. We believe this is the right thing to do, and that our fans will support this and give Jack their full support too."

Diamond has made 45 first-team appearances for Sunderland and also had three loan spells at Harrogate Town between 2019 and 2022, scoring 18 times in 76 games.

Carlisle manager Paul Simpson said: "He's a player who we hope will come in, create and score goals for us and bring some exciting forward play to the group.

"Jack has had a long period without playing games but his fitness levels are excellent. It will take him a few games to get up to match pace but I'm excited to see him be part of our team."

Josh Midfielder Vela, 30, has made 28 appearances for the Cod Army this season and goes straight into the squad for Saturday's game against his former club Bolton.

Neither club has disclosed whether a fee has been paid for the former Shrewsbury player, whose contract includes the option of an extension.

Carlisle manager Paul Simpson told the club website: "He's a leader with great experience. He's played over 300 games and he's a player we've been discussing for many weeks.

"We thought we were close around the time we played Fleetwood on Boxing Day but their manager changed and Josh went back into the team as captain

Carlisle have signed Rotherham striker Georgie Kelly for an undisclosed fee on a three-and-a-half-year deal.

The 27-year-old Irishman scored six goals in 48 league appearances for the Millers after joining from Bohemians in January 2022.

He could make his debut for the Cumbrians at Leyton Orient on Saturday.

"He's a good size and he had a fantastic goalscoring record when he was over in Ireland," boss Paul Simpson told the club website.
