RE: Thread For Anything But Football - St Charles Owl - 01-11-2016 (01-11-2016, 21:52)peiowl Wrote: I'd be willing to give Hillary a chance. She just might surround herself with a capable bunch of advisors and cabinet members. I agree that a decent Democrat (Sanders, e.g) would have wiped the floor with Trump but of the aspirants for the Republicans, I could only see Kasich as someone who would have given her a ride for her money. The rest were cattle fodder. Sanders would have been a disaster in my opinion and I am not convinced he would have beaten Trump, too left wing for most Yanks!!! Kasich was decent, I was ok with Rubio as well. It is amazing how Trump just brushed them aside one by one, but a guy who can say what he wants without having to hold back or follow any party line can trash any other candidate who is not whiter than white and we know most politicians won't pass that test!! It seems an unwritten rule in party politics, you don't go after me for transgression A and I won't mention transgression B while we are both running for nomination, in a sense, lets debate but lets not destroy the party in the process, Trump was able to ignore all that. I really hope Hillary wins and then does surround herself with good people but I fear it will just be the same cronies we see all the time, rather than some fresh faces and dare I say cross party stuff. Whoever wins this election is going to have to do some serious work on bringing the country together because its as divided now as it probably ever has been. RE: Thread For Anything But Football - BBB - 01-11-2016 'Whoever wins this election is going to have to do some serious work on bringing the country together probably because its as divided now as it's ever been.' I will totally agree with you on that one, St C, but what a rotten choice either one is. RE: Thread For Anything But Football - peiowl - 02-11-2016 I'm obviously more left wing than you sco. I thought Rubio was a wimp with nothing to offer. I agree that post election will be a difficult time for the states. Good candidates for the democrats would have been Bernie, Elizabeth Warren or Joe Biden. But it's Hillary and I don't think she'll be too bad. But it's Hillary and I don't think she'll be too bad. I've no doubt you are more left wing than me, after all you were a University Professor, being left wing comes with the job doesn't it?? Joe Biden would have been good, can't understand why he didn't run. Not saying Bernie isn't a good guy, just not sure he is electable, a bit like Michael Foot wasn't electable all those years ago for Labour. RE: Thread For Anything But Football - peiowl - 02-11-2016 University types as we're often disparagingly referred to do tend to be more to the left. Not always though. One guy, a friend of mine, moved back to England years ago and was delighted at the time that Margaret Thatcher was P. M. RE: Thread For Anything But Football - talkSAFT - 02-11-2016 Thatcher and Trump: a marriage made in Heaven..............or Hell.......... whatever, the sooner the better. RE: Thread For Anything But Football - peiowl - 02-11-2016 To get away from politics, SCO's cubs have forced a game 7 in the World Series. Should be exciting. World Series? Does any other Country play those daft games? (Excuse me, I don't know if you're on about American Football, that Rounders game you play, or Hide and Seek.) Should be exciting. TalkSaft, what are you on about?? The US and Canada take part, we don't let the Mexicans in for this one, so isn't that the whole world anyway??? And yes, Game 7 tonight, should be a very tense affair but can't wait for it!!! RE: Thread For Anything But Football - peiowl - 02-11-2016 But I believe there are Mexican players on some of the AL and NL baseball teams, as well as Cubans, Dominicans, Ncaraguans, Japanese, Koreans, and the list goes on. |
