Tony Pulis says no to Ivanovich and Wilson and that Albion will not splash the cash (I assume on over priced alternative options).

It might be a typical Albion bluff but I get the feeling we will batten down the hatches, maybe take a loan player or two and see out the season with what we have.

A shame but at the end of the day why spend over the odds for a player who you'd not really want in the squad that starts the 17/18 season.

TP lines up a loan player....that'll go well then, Stairs. I agree we should not sign players unless they improve the squad. My concern is that we said the same in last January's window and that we should wait until the summer 2016 but that turned out be a massive disappointment as well. Do we have any confidence that hanging on until summer 2017 will result in the players we need and want? Previous experience might indicate otherwise

Before many people start slating TP over our 'lack of ambition and signings", etc etc., I'd just like to point out that, pretty definitely and obviously, TP WOULD like to spend loads and bring in several players; what manager wouldn't? His hands are obviously tied, and the level of business won't be dictated by him but by those above him.
I'm pretty sure he would have his targets, and if he doesn't land them I imagine he'll be even more pee'd off than any of US, so let's be realistic about where any frustration and negativity should be aimed at Whistle

(Still think that we'll get a couple in before the circus ends though

West Brom manager Tony Pulis says he is "desperate" to sign new players before the transfer window closes on Tuesday.

Can't blame TP, can't really blame the hierarchy, we have made bids for decent players, big bids, but they have chosen to go elsewhere, last summer the takeover interfered with the window, hoping this year with a good place finish we can be more attractive to new players that are not overpriced. Let's hope

I agree with you all
However Pullis words were disappointing.
" I don't think we have that much cash left after signing Jake for £10 Million"

Strange. We have since bid £8 Million for Fonte ?
Also we have just sold Saido for £ 12 million ?
At the start of the window............
We have cash left over from the summer ...........
So that's £2 Million profit in the January market
Plus the £8 million for Fonte , has £10 million just disappeared into Stairs Pocket !!

Something doesn't add up.

If they want to wait until the summer fair enough,
However with statements like that above, that don't make the utmost sense is treating us like a load of thickos Huh

RE: 2016/17 (Jan 30 Update) WBA January Transfer Window - Stairs - 30-01-2017

Buying players in January, especially if you had not had plans in place before it opened is like buying tickets for a concert from Ticketmaster or a tout - they are always going to be over the odds.

You've really got to be desperate or very excited about the gig/player.

RE: 2016/17 (Jan 30 Update) WBA January Transfer Window - aries22 - 30-01-2017

Considering Jake Livermore was a January window buy, I think we got him at a fair price.

I can understand the interest in Branislav Ivanovic (CB) but I didn't really understand our interest in Callum Wilson - it was definitely off the radar for me. I notice he had an anterior cruciate ligament rupture a couple of years ago. That particular injury always worries me a bit, and although he's had no reported problem with it since, I can't help thinking of George Thorne. Definitely an injury which can recur and which can cause cumulative permanent weakness. I could be completely wrong, of course.
