Emma Raducanu - themaclad - 08-09-2021 US Open Semi Finalist RE: Emma Raducanu - Lord Snooty - 08-09-2021 Absolutely brilliant. She looks the real deal. Gets a bit nervy at first but once she settles down, she's a force. Brilliant! RE: Emma Raducanu - theo_luddite - 08-09-2021 Anyone see this coming? RE: Emma Raducanu - Lord Snooty - 08-09-2021 No. Even though she looked good at Wimbledon and probably only lost because of the breathing difficulties she was having, I never thought she would come on so much, so quickly. British players usually show promise and then fade. Like Watson, Robson and Konta recently have done. Emma has shown promise and not looked at all like she's going to choke on the vital points. It's been her much more experienced opponents who have been showing the nerves. Keep it going, lass. RE: Emma Raducanu - theo_luddite - 08-09-2021 She seems to hold her nerve, let alone her serve, even when she goes a few games down, when most of he ilk would bail out and try to get the next set back. RE: Emma Raducanu - St Charles Owl - 08-09-2021 Today was her first match against a player from the ATP Top 40, and while she had her characteristic slow start once she got going there was only one player in it. She is guaranteed $675,000 prize money from this tournament now, not bad for a kid who has just done her A levels!! Of course she is also now going to have to cope with being the only hope we have in tennis, and with that comes intense media coverage of every aspect of her life, and that of her family and friends. Its the British medias way and has often destroyed others, lets hope she can continue to progress despite that attention. RE: Emma Raducanu - Lord Snooty - 08-09-2021 Well unlike Andy Murray, who had the misfortune to be playing at the same time as tennis legends Federer, Nadal and Djokovic, Emma appears to be arriving just at the right time. Since Serena's dominance of the women's game seems to be more or less over, there isn't anybody who looks like they can win two Grand Slams in a row. Osaka has won 4, Barty and Halep have a couple each. But over the last 17 Grand Slams since Serena last won, there have been 11 different winners. Why not an 18 year old, born of Romanian and Chinese parents in Canada, but representing the country she grew up in, winning one in New York? RE: Emma Raducanu - Lord Snooty - 09-09-2021 Maria Sakkari next, after she beat Pliskova last night. Bad news is it's on in the middle of the night. Around 2 in the morning they're saying. Not for me its not, makes a change to be on the right side of the time zone!! RE: Emma Raducanu - St Charles Owl - 10-09-2021 19 yr old Fernandez takes the first set against No2 seed Sanalenka!! Dare we imagine a final between two unseeded teenagers?? Ironically both were born in Canada. |
