IRB Sevens
#1
Somewhat disappointingly, Scotland will be removed as a host on the Rugby Sevens circuit and replaced by France from 2016 onwards. It's particularly cutting as the Sevens tournament and the great time everyone had watching it at Ibrox was one of the big highlights of last summer's Commonwealth Games.

The problem is rugby on the whole doesn't market itself very well in this country, and the Sevens has struggled to attract significant crowds. We're now going to pay the price for the SRU's lack of imagination and - let's face it - elitism. The body has no interest in pushing rugby union into new areas or developing interest outwith the usual schools. Football dominates sport in this country, but the 6 Nations generates enough national interest to provide a more than adequate foothold for further development. The Sevens in particular is a great way to make the sport more accessible, but now the opportunity to utilise that has gone.
