Nicola Sturgeon finally begins the process of separation!

Also: Tory leader in Holyrood saying how we should have different travel arrangements for different parts of Spain, and Nicola Sturgeon pointing out how interesting it was how he backed different quarantine levels for different parts of that country unlike Scotland and England.

It was hilarious listening to the clown try and explain it away.

I listened to this desperate clown briefly talking to the bbc's Gordon Brewer on Sunday and allowed to rant on unchallenged on Sunday Politics - a pantomime act when one listened to the subject of his ire!! Laugh It wasn't the 70k COVID related deaths across the UK and it wasn't that the UK would not now be granted an extension beyond December to EU trade talks due to the ideological intransigence of his party at Westminster; it wasn't even that second poll in a row that showed 54% (great but why is it not a lot more than that???) in favour of Scot Indy. It was the catastrophe re Border Control checks but overlooking the fact that the UK govt suddenly introduced blanket quarantine regs following minimal consultation with the devolved governments. He attempted to bolster his threadbare case by wrongly stating that Scotland was the only one of the four nations that had not carried out "quarantine checks" on arrivals when only Public health England had claimed to have made any such checks and duly pointed out by Brewer. The UK govt, in attempting to centralise control at every opportunity, has exacerbated a distressingly deficient pandemic preparedness by repeatedly causing unnecessary delays. It was only recently that the devolved govts finally gained access to "UK Lab" testing data, acquired under their own health jurisdictions, and local councils in England are only being given "full access", on a weekly basis, to test data that is essential for rapid contact-tracing. He also ignored the fact that this Brit govt has allowed more than 20M people to fly into the UK since the start of the pandemic. All of these people (incl Johnson's self-righteous father!!) have entered the country with absolutely no checks and certainly no follow up action. Maybe it is time for Mr Carlaw to direct some of his pent-up frustrations at those in his own party governing at Westminster with whom he boasts to have some influence - as that old Scot saying goes: AYE, THAT'LL BE RIGHT!!

Emasculation of devolution!!? What will these scheming Tory bastards "dream up" next?? All I can say is BRING IT ON if that is indeed their devious little plan - it will not end well for various reasons and this political game will prob be concluded in either the highest law court in Scotland or in the UK Supreme Court. I also notice our desperate little non-entity of a Scot Tory party leader, Carlaw, unsurprisingly backing this and a "power grab" on the Scot Parliament - the only political group in Scotland to shamelessly endorse it and it just confirms the desperate "no hope" position that this charlatan is in!! The words OUT IN THE COLD come to mind - most people up here can't take them seriously and no f###### wonder!!

It's been the plan for a while now. After the brexit transition period they are going to steal a whole raft of powers from Holyrood

The Tories "wheeled out" their Business Sec, Alok Sharma, who "reeled off" the biggest load of pish re this wonderful transfer of powers calling it a "power surge" to the devolved countries of the UK - an absolute con! The Scot Govt's Constitutional Relations Sec, Mike Russell, immediately "jumped in" describing it as one of the most shocking pieces of dishonesty ever seen from a Brit govt official, the list of powers, what it pretends to say isn't true - a mish-mash of things/powers that the Scot govt already has. Plaid Cymru's MP, Hywel Williams, endorsed this view that "vast powers over devolved areas would transfer to Tory ministers". I think re the food standards issue alone, the Scot govt should block any kinda attempt by this corrupt bunch of Tory Brexit extremists to denigrate highly regarded EU standards and do it through Scot Parliament legislation and businesses in Scotland - make it the battleground to hold on to powers that we are not willing to concede, a case of f### them.
Meanwhile, on another issue, I notice that the Scot Finance Sec, Kate Forbes, has been fully vindicated in a IFS report after challenging the CoE, Sunak, on his £30B summer statement that the Tories claimed Scotland would receive 100s of millions of quid when, in fact, Forbes pointed out this emergency budget would result in Scotland receiving £21M. Forbes received a raft of vilified comments from the usual unionist/Tory MSPs and MPs who now have "egg all over their faces" AGAIN!! FORBES WASN'T WRONG AFTER ALL AND THE EXTRA MONEY WAS NOT QUITE WHAT IT SEEMS - SMOKE AND MIRRORS COME TO MIND!! Re Sunak's emergency budget, the IFS went further in slamming him for a lack of ambition and not applying real stimulus in the form of £80B in new investment, an extension of the furlough scheme and the devolution of financial powers to enable a tailored response for Scotland and Scottish interests.

It's nothing short of a massive betrayal of the devolved parliaments. Boris is going to have his own 'Scottish office' and undermine the Scots gov. Folk don't understand just how much ill will that this is going to cause between the parts of the UK.

All of this in the background of polls showing nearly half of England want to break up the union anyway.

That comment re ill will is an understatement Jim. You watch what will happen up here if these bastards try to pull off this kinda shit. Remember that devolution has approx 80% backing from the Scottish electorate, never mind the huge support of the Scot indy movement. I fear somebody will sadly get badly hurt if they "try on" this kinda incitement against this democratic, inclusive and pragmatic country that we live in. I expect the law courts to be very busy during that period of political assault in which the Scottish govt will be fighting "tooth n nail" to enforce the good governance of Scotland without interference from Tory bastards/extremists who have no interest in Scotland or Scotland's interests whatsoever.

Breaking news this afternoon - another Scot Tory leader "bites the dust", apparently "pushed" by his Scot Tory good buddies - the Scot Tory leader, Carlaw, resigns from his position citing the fact he is not good enough to lead a unionist initiative for Scotland to remain with the rUK. Bring in a younger Tory with new ideas says Mr Carlaw? Then Douglas Ross's name being touted by certain Scot Tories and the bbc - the "charismatic"(?) Mr Douglas Ross lol!!!! The facts of the matter are 1. The vacant position is a "poison chalice" with less than a year remaining before the Scottish Election 2. The Scot Tories have nobody of any great standing 3. They are of interest to less than a third of the Scottish electorate and even many Brexit leave voters up here wouldn't go near them.
