Saint Mirren v Hibs, Tues 2 Feb, KO 6.00pm
#1
Another away match for Hibs and our record "on the road" is one of the best in the Scot Prem. However, this fixture is an interesting one in the fact that the Buddies, under Jim Goodwin, appear to have "found their mojo" after being beaten in their Betfred Cup semi-final at Hampden Park. On the other hand, Hibs look like they have "turned the corner" after beating Dundee United at Tannadice and subsequently ending an unwelcome sequence of bad results although "suckered" by bad ref calls in some of these matches. The likely result looks like a draw but Hibs actually have a decent record v the Buddies. This is a fixture that Jack Ross, an ex manager of Saint Mirren, seems to excel in. What team should he field on Tuesday night? He normally plays "two up top" but may have to be a tad cautious esp after they registered a 1st victory in 31 years at Celtic Park v a poor Hoops' side. I would tend to find out how many "tired Buddies legs" remain after such a big effort to win at Celtic Park. That means playing a high tempo strategy and see if they can handle it. Play the ex Saint Mirren players? They'll have something to prove! So prob a good initial move to face their former footie club. Hibs problem will prob be a goal scoring one again - who scores the requisite goals from the chances created? McGregor and Boyly obliged at Tannadice but I'm not so sure they'll repeat the "trick" v the Buddies. We need our recognised strikers to start scoring again but also need to provide a decent service to them. It could be that Doidgy will be "paired up" with Kevin Nisbet but that depends if Hibs hold on to the young striker. Another win would be great to see and it would provide another boost to the confidence of the team. C'mon Hibs but lets keep it "tight at the back"!

It looks like we got a new player in the transfer window - a certain Martin Boyle. Aberdeen losing tonight has also helped us along, so things are looking up for now.

Aye! FT and a vg 1-2 win for Hibs with Martin Boyle surprisingly looking like a different player and vying for the MOTM award! And JR's sub moves after HT finally paying dividends with Nisbet winning the corner kick from which Porteous scored the opening goal and then Boyly scoring that all-important second goal. Also that red card on 36 mins to their goalie, Alnwick, really was a welcome piece of good fortune that Hibs didn't scorn!! Well done and now we move on to another "big match" challenge v the Dons. Win that and a second place spot could be within sight!!? Fingers crossed this time!

3 points the most important thing, helped by Alnwick getting sent off. Did not really control the game against 10 men and our game management is always a little dubious at present. Still onto the Dons on Saturday at ER so fingers crossed..........why can't we play all our games away? Big Grin

I'm just going to keep slating Boyle in the hope he keeps this up....However when he went back out wide last night he seemed a bit like the player of old.

Will wait and see how he does on Saturday. Last night was bound to give him more space as St M were down to 10 for 55 minutes and also were chasing the game for 35 minutes......situation made for him. The pitch looked good last night so will see how he copes with the surface back at ER.

His deadball delivery is still poor with the exception of the corner we scored from.

Still some greenshoots of improvement is good news. Smile
