Man Utd vs WBA - Match Thread - Ska'dForLife-WBA - 19-11-2020

2020 will go down in history as a year in which hope became strikingly similar to toilet roll: you took it in any form you could find it, in whatever tiny quantity was available. And both were pretty much bound for the same destination, at least as far as Albion were concerned in late November.

Before those hopes are wiped and duly flushed, however, we can take a few positives from the game against Spurs that saw a better Baggies performance (though not enough to avoid the late heartbreak). If Bilic keeps faith with that changed team then it's possible we might be able to build on the last showing and give a good account of ourselves at Old Trafford, where Manchester United are still without a win so far this season and languishing in 14th. A comfortable victory at Goodison Park in their last outing shows that they're still no pushovers, but ultimately, in our position we have to scrap for points everywhere. There are no write-offs.

It's almost tradition at this point to bring up 1978 before a visit to Man Utd, and we probably don't do ourselves any favours with that constant reminder. But the fact is, we've managed wins there against the odds even fairly recently, and the absence of fans is a great leveller. There's no reason whatsoever not to give it our best shot.

Famous fans: Inevitably, it would be quicker to list the famous people who *aren't* Man Utd fans of one (usually recent) vintage or another, but there are a few intriguing names among the multitude. I'm sure BaggieVicar is grateful that loyal red John Sentamu is no longer calling the shots at York Minster, and thus the final words "From Giggsy" can at last be excised from the title of the hymn When I Survey The Wondrous Cross. Rochdale-born Bill Oddie is also a lifelong fan, presumably because someone once told him that if he took his binoculars into corporate hospitality then he'd see a flock of black-bibbed tits. But the most eyebrow-raising claim of all is that Supreme Leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea and failed Gangnam Style impersonator Kim Jong-Un never misses a United match, having them specially broadcast in his palace in Pyongyang. Even as someone old enough to remember the Wigan Athletic publicity stunt that spuriously touted Mikhail Gorbachev as a dedicated Latics fan, this one actually does hold water. For starters, it's not as if United exactly need more publicity. Nor do they really need to be associated with a bullying, megalomaniacal despot from a Third World country (at least, not while Alex Ferguson is still regularly attending matches). The only reasonable conclusion is that Marshal Kim is indeed sincere both in his support for the Red Devils, and in his stated desire to see Manchester United playing in future with a team exclusively comprised of North Korean players. And if he can fulfill that dream in time for Saturday, I think Albion fans everywhere will join hands to salute him.

Disgraceful game and VAR is just rigged by the people using it. Only see what they want to see.
